Tom Buchanan is an intriguing man who is perceived to be arrogant and. I would say Tom’s a tall and athletic man who has an intimidating look. Nick said “Two shining arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward.” (F.Scott Fitzgerald). This quote gives details about how Tom’s eyes bring your attention when you look at his face and how it makes him seem even more aggressive. Nick described “His speaking voice, a gruff husky tenor, added to the impression of fractiousness he conveyed.”(F.Scott Fitzgerald). Nick added a description of how Tom’s voice sounds because Tom has a rough voice which makes him seem like even more of an intimidating person. I would also say Tom has a poor personality because he is a self centered person who wants to relive his glory days of his past. Tom was a star football player in high school, but now he’s just a sad man constantly trying to live in the past and it’s kind of sad that he peaked early in life and now everything feels boring to Tom.

The colors that I saw that were mentioned were green and gold. Gold was used to describe the wealth and extravagance in characters' lifestyles while green signifies hope.

Honestly I think Tom Buchanan is trying too hard to relieve his time while playing football. Tom tries to be smart, blunt, and intimidating just like who he was in high school.

Student Choice - F.Scott Fitzgerald’s writing style

As I’m reading, I have noticed how descriptive Fitzgerald is in his writing. Fitzgerald writes like he’s trying to draw a portrait or scene when being descriptive. Nick had said that when Daisy and Jordan got up from sitting on the couch, both of their white dresses were rippling and fluttering. When Nick felt the breeze come into the room as he entered the Buchanan Mansion, Nick said that the curtains in the room were blowing like pale flags. I also think F.Scott Fitzgerald’s description of Daisy is kind of interesting because she acts like she has 2 sides. He also says that she’s exciting and bright.

Daisy and Mr. Buchanan live in East egg while Nick and Gatsby live in West egg. We see Gatsby as a wealthy person but it looks like he makes money in a dirty style. Gatsby would also be considered a “new rich” meaning his wealth was earned recently and that his money wasn’t passed down from generation to generation. Mr. Buchanan was also a very wealthy person but, he got his money from his family which was passed down so he’s considered an “old rich” who lives in East egg. East and west egg are basically split between people who are new rich and who earn money from themselves and people in the East egg who are old. East egg had a better architectural style than west egg because the old rich mansions were simply designed better than the newer houses

Jordan never cared about how well she drives while on the road; she expects other drivers on the road to be cautious and avoid her because she believes it takes two careless people to cause a car accident. For example Jordan almost hit a man who was on the side of the road while driving and she said it was a funny little mistake. Jordan can’t take these things seriously because she’s just too reckless and selfish to care for the well beings of others. Jordan would rather enjoy her just reckless party life which is going to get somebody injured eventually.

One interesting thing I like about Jordan and nick is that they both seem to have friendships with people In different social classes and are able to go back and forth between them and not be judged for what ever reason.

From my understanding Mr. Wolfsheim is a part of a Jewish mob in New York and He’s a malicious man who has human molars on his custom made clothing. Mr. Wolfsheim took part in rigging the world series to make a profit off of the gambling and now has to run from the cops to avoid being arrested. Mr. Wolfsheim is oddly proud to know Gatsby for a couple of years. Him and Gatsby both seem to have business ties together but that is still a mystery as of now.

Gatsby tries to show himself as a very honest and respectful man. Gatsby doesn’t allow himself to become rowdy at his parties and always stays calm. Even with all of Gatsby's effort to seem honest there are many rumors that were spread like how Gatsby had been a German spy or that he had actually killed a man. All of the rumors become more believable after finding out Gatsby is connected with Wolfsheim.

The green light is almost some sort of encrypted message that Gatsby makes for him and Daisy before they are reunited. I think it’s intriguing that the color of the light is green because in today’s culture green is associated with greed, jealousy, and wealth. If you stop and think about it Gatsby is trying to use money and materials to try and get Daisy's attention. Gatsby is well aware that Daisy married Tom for money and materials. Gatsby is trying to show Daisy that he can give her anything she desires and more.

Gatsby also said he inherited all of his money after his parents died. Gatsby said he had lost his money but after losing his money during the economic panic of WW1 he worked and gained it back from the oil and pharmaceuticals businesses. Gatsby also proudly says he attended Oxford like the rest of his family members.

If we’re being truthful James Gatsby was raised on a farm in North Dakota. Gatsby had actually gone to a community college for a few weeks by working as a janitor at the school. Gatsby left college and sailed around the World with a wealthy man named Dan Cody. Dan Cody is probably where he learned how rich people behave and act. After Cody died James worked for his wealth through illegal business with the New York's Jewish Mob. Daisy does also seem to love Gatsby but she has doubts about their relationship working out. Daisy’s relationship with Tom is complicated but she has stated she doesn’t love Tom. Daisy always denies the fact that her daughter resembles Tom. “She doesn’t look like her father. She looks like me.”(Fitzgerald). The only reason Daisy is still with Tom is because of her child she has to think of her child. Tom doesn’t love Daisy but he uses her and keeps her around as something to show off. Nick doesn’t love anyone, he only had a crush on Jordan and loves Daisy as his cousin.

The Great Gatsby shows that the American dream can lead to greed and can influence people's decisions for the worst. Basically every character was too caught up in the American dream trying to get money or pursue a relationship. Most of The characters who wanted to become wealthy die or become sad in the story. George had killed himself as a result of Myrtle's selfish decisions. Myrtle was killed because of her affair with Tom and her attempt to live a luxurious lifestyle. Gatsby died because of his decision to try and win the heart of a married women.

All of the characters who weren’t killed still didn’t have happy endings Either. “they were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness (Fitzgerald).”Tom left the town with Daisy and he doesn’t truly care about her. The only character who had a neutral ending was Nick. Nick never tried to obtain wealth or a relationship or even tried to obtain the American dream.

One thing that I’ve seen in my life that relates to the great Gatsby is people being in your life only to use you for their benefit and not be at your funeral. My brothers grandpa was pretty successful in life owning some property and having a good bit of money. When he was alive people on his side of the family asked him for money and never genuinely cared about him unless they needed something. When his funeral had taken place he had written on his will he only wanted six selected people to show up and no one else was invited because they didn’t care for him.
