Put all the raw elements in a large pot, stir and leave simmering. Add some spicy friends from all over the universe, so magical like mushrooms, stir and bring to the boil, until the bubbles jump out of the pot and roll in all directions, until they went dry and burst leaving tiny drippy paths, leaving just one but there was no more liquid in the pot had boiled dry. So the little bubble went to Egypt to find some water.....soup.

This is a painting done by my father, it is of the hotel next to the train station in Port- Vendres, a place I pondered upon arriving at the station on my quest to find him, someone I knew nothing about and had sought out for many years. So many questions, guided only by my senses and pure intuition but this was apparently all I needed, as the 7 day trip unfolded. He liked to paint in the style of Mackintosh a painter of the Arte Novouvelle era, the colours bright in the painting of this area famous for all my favourite painters although I had not realised before embarking on the trip, Matisse, and Salavadore Dali.

This ted talk is so inspiring and helps communicate what I have been reading about. This is just but one method. I also think for me to think of my art as a relational soup will help me generate work physically.

FINDING ME

I hope i have found it !

I started this work by working on a natural canvas that I prepared with clear rabbit skin gesso.

I then worked in the oil dry with my fingers, cloths etc.. ......

As when working with the graphite I find that working with my hands more create a more natural flow and allows me to relax into the process.

Before i hated how I needed a reference image to work from but now I understand that by concentrating on an image loosely it allows my mind to wander in an almost meditative way. Again like the photographic work shown in the show at TMS the process of layering is important ........... here we have almost shapes stretched over shape creating diagonal lines opposing the natural flows of the mingled colours.

I intend to finish the work in oil crayon to create more dimensions and texture, which is again interesting a thought as over the summer i was wondering whether I liked smooth or texture and here i am not making a clear definition between the two but employing both which I think works, but we will see.
