Small Elementary School

I attended Stawamus Elementary School. It was small. It was a very small closenit community. I still know some of the teachers today. I am still friends with many of my peers from back then. I felt a huge sense of belonging in my school community. Everyone knew my name and knew who I was. They also cared if I was successful and showed interest in what I wanted to do with my life and that interest came from a place of awareness too.

Hello children looking up to you and demanding you teach them. They are a blank slate. It has been amazing being in the role of teacher to them. It has also been hard and frustrating but amazing.

I do want the same schedule as them...

So summers and holidays off... YES PLEASE!

My Family

I come from a family with divorced parents. They divorced when I was only 2 years old. Both my parents were also Alcoholics. The relationship between them was not good in the beginning which led to a lot of trouble at home. I also had siblings who were not very strong in school and had other issues where as I was the "good child". This led to me seeking relationships and community elsewhere.

I have had amazing friends in my life. These friends have been a part of my life since elementary school. We have shared many big life moments together. They know me. They are always there to support me and to give me guidance and sometimes that push you need to "go for it". When University was hard, these friends got me through it even though they weren't always in the same town or country. Their individual stories have also contributed to the decisions I have made in my life. Their successes have pushed me as well.

Another person who has been an educational influence on me is my aunt. She is closer to me than my own mother. She is the person who has always been like a mentor or teacher in my life. She has supported me and guided me through it all. She is the type of person that I would want to be for any student of mine.

My high school was also small. I knew all of my teachers very well. It was again a community where I felt belonging and value.

I also valued my teachers. They went above and beyond. They organized many great field trips and coached sports teams. I feel very privileged to have had the school experience that I had.
