I attended an HBCU for undergrad and was completely appalled at the lack of scholarships afforded to me. I worked two jobs as a full-time undergraduate student, which often conflicted with my study time for school work. I noticed discrepancies between myself and some of the white students attending my HBCU. Many of them attended my alma mater on full scholarships from the athletic department. The schools I attended offered SAT test prep, tutoring, AP courses, and social justice small learning communities, Model UN, etc. However, some of my cousins and close friends who attended schools in other districts did not have the same educational experiences.
