According to visual geography,
"Unemployment rate in the urban areas is very high, about 50%, and many families struggle to get by; you therefore often see children working when they are very young, typically selling paper napkins etc. in the street.

After finding and analyzing all the information from my other posts, I've found a few main conclusions and connections between poverty and the environment in Ethiopia. 1. The number one major connection is the civil war that's still going on there. Not only can they not get jobs because of it because they're focusing all their time on this war, but it's also devastating to their environment as well because they most likely don't have the time, people, or the money to deal with the pollution problems. 2. The second big connection is that the extreme pollution and similar issues could also be making it very difficult to work because most of their country's money comes from agriculture. For that reason alone, It may be difficult to breathe as they work, and they aren't getting the clean water they need to keep working because it's so polluted. 3. After discovering that 50% of the Ethiopian population is unemployed and the rest that do work are only earning an incredibly tiny amount of money for it, I then drew the connection that those 50% who are not working could very likely be another reason why their environment is so bad because there's not enough people working to fix those environmental problems so they're just getting worse. 4. The fourth conclusion is that Ethiopians may not be able to find a reason for why they should work because if the conditions are so bad in their environment that it makes the job extra difficult and they're not even getting paid enough, why work? Which therefore will forever keep them in this terrible cycle of a horrible environment that's getting worse because no one's working to fix it and because of that no one's getting jobs.

Picture found from Wikipedia.org

The Borgen Project, wrote a few important facts I wanted to point out. Here's what they found;

"With an estimated population of 86 million people, 78% of Ethiopians struggle with an income below the US $2 a day.

Approximately 34% of the rural population in Ethiopia has access to an improved water source.

Almost two-thirds of its people are illiterate."

From the previous posts, I found it very fascinating that there are 86 million people in Ethiopia but again only 50% of them work and the ones that do, receive very little money. The water and illiteracy issues are striking as well.

Are Ethiopians not working because they're not earning enough money to live?

Photo provided by Wikipedia.org
