As my inquiry cycle is a work in progress, I feel I am "slaying-ish" tuning in, sorting out (making connections; hand signals for all concepts), and action (padlet for parents to contribute action). I feel I need to continue to grow my going further and reflection. We do a lot of reflecting, however I want to learn how I can do more and have it be intentional and something we can share with parents.

I think I do a great job encouraging students to make connections across subject areas using our Board of Inquiry. I also feel that I excel (SLAY) at sparking curiosity when introducing a new unit. However, I want to improve at integrating the specified concepts into our daily routine and vocabulary. Next year, I plan to spend more time at the beginning of each unit explicitly explaining these concepts and ensuring they are displayed more effectively in the classroom.

I often refer to the contents on the board to help the students understand its purpose. I have tried both a circular and linear type of display board to help create an understanding of the Inquiry Cycle. This has been a work in progress because and I am not yet “sold” on the most effective way to make it developmentally appropriate for K kids. I want to focus on integrating the specified concept into our daily routine to create effective visuals for students to better express their understanding of these terms.

I think I post student work/photographs showing students working under the Sorting Out section of the Inquiry Cycle well. Going Further is hard for second graders to initiate but I feel I provide Pebble Go activities that go beyond the Lines of Inquiry to take the students further in their learning of the Central Idea. I need to work on student questioning by providing time and guiding students to ask questions. This is hard for second graders to do independently without reminders.

I think I do well with applying inquiry across the curriculum. I also think this year, my students and I have worked hard to think conceptually and to display how the concepts connect to our learning. I need to work on displaying more of our process on the walls. We do well with electronically recording it all, and sending examples home. However, we need to copy and show more on our inquiry walls. I plan to have students define and show their thoughts about the words "Sharing the Planet" this week on our inquiry board. One step at a time!

I also am having success with students posting more evidence on Seesaw for each unit of inquiry so we have lots of student work to reflect on at the end of the planner. I want to focus on integrating the specified concepts more naturally in our daily learning.

I think -with the help of my team- that I do a great job of sharing student knowledge/evidence connected to our lines of inquiry. Our formative assessments throughout the lessons really show student learning. I want to redo my Inquiry Cycle next year to not be so "rigid" and take away the defined sections. This will help me be more responsive to labeling the evidence on our UOI wall.

I think I do well with posting our trail of learning in each UOI onto our inquiry board and also referring to it with students. This helps my students review the content and big ideas. I could do better of letting my students have more agency in what goes on our board and have them be thinkers to where it goes. I'm also doing better of making it cross curricular and connecting other subject areas into our units and showing those on our inquiry board. Reading seems to be the easiest in this area, so a goal would be to now connect other curricular areas.

We reflect after each line of inquiry and have students add evidence to the board as a class and sort which phase of the inquiry cycle they think the evidence fits with.

I struggle with how to encourage students to take action on our unit of inquiry. I wonder if giving time or an assignment for them to take action (similar to what we do for exhibition) would be beneficial.
