I have chosen a video that teaches clothes' vocabulary. I will use this video with students in 3rd grade of primary Education. Regarding the contents that could be improved, I will say that pre-teaching could be used by letting students some time to guess the vocabulary words. In addition, more informal language could be employed for example by adding some short sentences. An example would be: "I am wearing a blue shirt".

Nevertheless, the redundancy principle is not followed because there is on-screen text all the time. This may help students who may struggle to understand it otherwise. However, it's definitely not needed for advanced students.

Hi everyone! I always use this video with my little kids (first graders) that REALLY love songs and rythms.
This song deals with clothes lexis and the structure ''put on/take off'', so they point their clothes and make gestures during all the video. We as teachers can apply the pre-while-post approach to take the advantage of the song using different techniques.

In fact, we can also ask our students about the colors of the clothes that they can see in the video in order to review previous knowledge. These resources really motivates them and catch their attention.

This is a video that can be used in Science at Primary level (maybe 4th grade). It is quite good in general but I think there are two principles that coud be revised.
The first one of them is the Personalization Principle. The language used in this resource sometimes is not so informal as it should be and there is an analysis about the origin of the words that I think is not appropiate for Primary Students. I would eliminate this part.
Secondly, we must talk about the Image Principle. The image of this "Blue Genius" talking to the viewers doesn't contribute very much to the transmission of the message and may generate distraction on our pupils. So I wouldn't include it in the video.

In my humble opinion, this video could be an example of a useful tool to use in our Primary English lessons to explain content related to Floods.

However, despite that most of the Mayer´s principles are achieved, I would improve Coherence and Image Principles.

In order to do so, I would avoid presenting several distracting aspects at the same time (such as pictures, words, background voices or noises and the main character presented at the same time).

Once having analysed this video that I have shown more than once in class, I have concluded that it may cover the coherence principle too, because the images may not be distracting for most students.
The video starts talking about what it's going to be dealt with but it doesn't mention the organisation in itself.
I don't really understand the segmenting principle.
Pre-training principle may be covered if you think that the summary on youtube is enough as a pre-watch introduction.
There is no narrator's image on screen so that image principle doesn't apply.

I think that this is a great video for introducing the topic of Food. One of the multimedia principles that does not follow is the one that states "Learning is improved when the learner is introduced to the key elements of a
multimedia resource before viewing the resource", but it can be done in class before.
This video leads to an open discussion post-activity, as I am sure that the students will have a lot to say not only about the eating habits in other countries but about what others think the Spanish breakfast is ("Churros" and chocolate!!!)

Good afternoon teachers! I have created a video with the lovely app Canva that I use each day for my classes. This video is for introducing a new unit about FARM ANIMALS with first and second graders. The video presentation is simple but effective, and the teacher has to pause the video before seeing the name of the animal and ask students for previous ideas. Then, we continue seeing the next animal and we ask them again. We can also review the colors asking them for the colors of the different animals and sizes (Big vs small).
In fact, we can also make them the sound of these animals or the actions, and they will love it.
The objetive is to introduce new lexis in a contextualised way as well as ask for previous knowledge (use of strategies).

This video is used to help to teach passive voice. The verbs in the passive form appears in colour and some words are also higlighted. There are comentaries on words in bold and subtitles.
The pre-training principle appears at the end of the video which is something that could be improved and put it at the beginning.
There is text in the narration as well as images and graphic. I think it helps the understanding. It seems too much but it helps with the narration.

Mayer's principles. Pet song

The video that has been chosen and visualised for evaluation, according to Mayer's twelve principles, gets a pass for most of them.

This video shows a song devoted to Pet animals that looks pretty appropriate for EFL learning with lower grades at primary.
Nonetheless, this clip seems to be open to some improvement when it comes to two principles, as expressed hereunder.

Coherence principle: when the chorus is being heard, a pic of a living room can be seen, which is not related at all with the pet-oriented content. Instead, this pic could be changed for a plain background that adds the pets mentioned as they are elucidated by the singer.

Image principle: as the video includes lots of pics for each pet, and even the singer makes their noises, it seems nonsense to include the singer's pic everytime.
It may be down to the TPR methodology followed by the video. Nervetheless, the singer's personal image abssence would leave more room for us as teachers to model the song the way we want, and with the gestures we want.

Please, feel free to enrich my analysis on this video.

Hi everyone! It's me Raquel. I attach in this post my video choice which I consider quiet appropriate for ESL teaching process.
After reading and analyzing the different ideas of how to record a video lesson for kids to watch at their own pace, I personally think this song video can be a good resource to show kids. There are some principles which this video doesn't include, though.
For example, in this video it would be difficult for children to advance at their own pace or guess what is coming next since there is not any stop to interact and guess the answer.
In contrast, there is a lot of repetition in the song and that makes the learning easier.
Besides, the learner is not introduced to the key elements before listening to the song, which can also be a hard job to understand.
Taking all these aspects into account, I will create my own video lesson presenting similar topic so as to improve the teaching and learning process.

This is a video I use in first and second grade to introduce the topic of color mixing with primary colors in Arts.

As for the items marked on the "no" column in Mayer's chart, there is good reason to justify their absence.

This is a video I found after trying others in which people, normally teachers, explained the topic by drawing or doing color mixing live, with words or showing themselves speaking in the video. I did not know Mayer's principles at that point but, using those videos along with this one in the class made me realize that this one alone could do the job so I ended up dropping most of the others to make room for more hands on experimentation. Normally, I would introduce the topic and ask what three colors are the "first" colors. Which ones cannot be done by mixing. Then we brainstorm and we write the hypotheses on the whiteboard. After that, we proceed to watch the first part of the video and we stop it when it has shown the primary colors. We use the same process for the hypotheses of color mixing and the results they will produce.

This is why principle number three: signaling principle, is not something desirable for the structure of the lesson. If we showed the whole structure of color mixing, children would not be able to hypothesize.

As for principles seven and eight, these are not marked because the video is an ongoing song with great ability to convey meaning in an informal way. By using the video in the way I explained before, we do not need the video itself to introduce the topic and have cues to stop in the middle of it. We can do it ourselves and, once we have used it as an introductory resource, we can use as a song to listen to while children do the hands on color mixing.

Hi! I've chosen this video that I commonly use in my English lessons because I think it has most of Mayer's principles covered. It's very simple and very easy for young students to understand and reproduce later. I usually play the full video first and then I stop every time a question is made (such as "Gorila, can you swim?") and I ask this question to my students, so they have to answer "Yes, I can" or "No, I can´t".

I have used this video in class to explain what vertebrate animals are and what their groups are.
From my point of view, this video ticks almost all the boxes, although I do miss that it doesn't have any text to highlight keywords, like some of the animal features, eg mammals: fur, mother's womb; Fish: scales...., and some graphics to summarize what was explained. Good morning, as an English teacher and big fan of science I have chosen this video about vertebrate and invertebrate animals as a reference. From my point of view, once reviewed the 12 principles, I could say that this video complies with its totality. It is quite a suitable video to introduce our little students to the Animal kingdom. The before and after review makes it especially clear and easy to follow. I have previously used this video with my 1st EP students and it is very clear to them.

I have re-selected the video I had worked with for task 2 of this micro-training in order to keep track of it and continue to put the 12 principles into practice. Anyway, I have used Edpuzzle (I had not done it before) and it has been very rewarding to work with this website. From now on I think I will use Edpuzzle continuously, I find it amazing. For the final project I have used the same theme as in the previous one, paying special attention to the basic concepts that I want to teach. This video is used for third graders. The topic we work on is endangered species. It is suitable according to Mayer's 12 principles. For example, the video meets image, coherence and voice principles (catchy pictures, slow speed of voice...). We also stop and comment the video when every endangered animal is explained. Once we finisihed watching the video, they start the final task of the unit. So, this video is used as a model of the final project.

This video is suitable according to Mayer's 12 principles and will be used with first cycle students (1st and 2nd grade) with the aim of promoting reading habits, since it is a tale called “The very hungry caterpillar”.

This beautiful story is perfect to work on vocabulary, grammar structures and basic concepts (i.e. days of the week, numbers, food, colors, etc.) that we will review previously with pre-activities before viewing the story and, once the video has been seen, we will reinforce those contents with post-activities to check for comprehension, so that the four linguistic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) will be worked on.
