"We are searching for ways to raise test scores without “teaching-to-the-test” (Wood, Pg 2). Since standardized testing has become the norm in schools all over the United States, the issue of "teaching-to-the-test" has been ongoing. I was excited to learn about this approach because of its versatility in today's school rooms. It is incredibly important that students are prepared for standardized testing, but we also need to verify that they are going to hold onto that knowledge even after the testing has concluded.

"Sternberg proposed that we all possess three kinds of intelligence— analytical, creative, and practical; these are accommodated particularly well in interdisciplinary instruction" (Wood, Pg 10). The idea that there are different kinds of learners is not new, but the accommodation for the different kinds of learners is ever-changing. I was very interested to read about how interdisciplinary instruction takes into account these three types of intelligence and uses this knowledge to help the learners understand more.

According to Piaget, children profit from a mix of practical and hands-on learning alongside abstract forms of teaching (Cone, Pg 5). This is something I have always been passionate about. You can teach a concept to a child all day long and they never truly understand it, but if you take that same subject and show them examples and real-life scenarios, they will be able to understand it much more effectively and for longer.

"Within the principles of content knowledge is a requirement that teachers understand how to relate physical education content with other subject areas" (Cone, Pg 11) This kind of teaching is vital to the understanding and development of important teaching skills. Not only does it foster healthy relationships with students, but it also encourages teachers to reach out to parents and colleagues for input and advice on their teaching. Learning is a community and I am glad that teachers are expected to work amongst that community to better a student's learning experience.
