Results show that the 16-25 market were somewhat desensitized to horror due to how normalized actual scariness was in their everyday lives and therefore demand even more bloodshed, the 26-40 market began to disengage with the genre as they felt films were becoming too predictable but were still fascinated by themes such as fear of the unknown, the 41-55 market believed horrors were far too frightening for their liking so films which satisfied other sub genres like psychological thrillers, and the 56-80 market avoided horrors because they were too reminiscent of the kinds of conditions they lived through and were exposed to during world war 2. Cohen defined moral panic as something that poses a threat to societal values and therefore collectively scares mass audiences; an example of this in horrors is 'The Purge' were the presidential debate was used as the pinnacle of a story line all about the dark side of gun control, home invasions, and the government.
