Scripture Passage

Revelation 22:1

Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

This particular scripture passage speaks to me. I believe that it saying that water gives life. "On either side of the river was the tree of life" this is stating that life follows that path of water. Water is a vital part of our life and guides us on our journey.

In life unexpected things happen all the time, these things are part of our journey or our oath. In this song, an old man is on a journey to see his granddaughter before he dies as he is told he has cancer. This news, for him, was unexpected and sent him on one of his journeys throughout life.

Yoga

As well as being a physical activity yoga is very much a spiritual practice as well. Working through emotional stresses and challenges with most yoga routines including meditation. This helps you to connect you wiht your inner self and your spirituality. Being connected to your inner self and focused on yourself is what connects you to your spirituality. Yoga much like water helps to go through the stages of life, for example, at the start you may be stressed and worried but throughout the practice you will become calm and destress. Much like life changes.

Prayer - a prayer of invocation

As a deer longs for living streams, as a weary traveler longs for the waters of life, so our souls long for you, O God. Refresh us, cleanse us, heal us with your living water. Pour out your Spirit upon us so our lives might overflow with your love. Pour out your Spirit upon all creation so that justice might roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. Amen.

I believe that this prayer describes how God cleanses us with the water of life. He guides us on our journey by using water. Water is the source of life and of our spiritual journey. “as a weary traveller longs for the waters of life, so our souls long for you, O God. Refresh us, cleanse us, heal us with your living water.”. Much like we have our own personal path to happiness set out for us, water follows a path as well, the extract taken from this prayer above demonstrates this. Water is powerful much like our spirituality and beliefs.

Scripture Passage

Ezekiel 47:9
"It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.".

I chose this scripture passage as i feel like it describes life for all beings. I believe that there is a path in life, chosen for us to get us to where we will be whole and happy. Like how a stream of water will follow the river bed like a path. This passage represents this belief of mine perfectly.

This photo, taken from Byron Bay lookout is a photo that has inspired me. The photo shows the different stages of the ocean, much like the different stages of life. Everyone goes through tough times in their life. As well as happy and calm times. In the distance, the water is calm and soft, much like the easy and stress-free times in life. Closer up the harsh waves, crashing together, represent the harder times in our life when it feels like were stuck in a struggle. Much like the waves we work through our problems to return to the easier times.

Catholic Eucharist Liturgy

The Eucharist or catholic mass is considered as one of the most significant and powerful forms of prayer. Each mass is divided into two sections; Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. At each mass followers may choose to eat the bread and drink the wine. Jesus said "this is my blood and this is my body", the bread and wine represent this. Being able to drink and eat these connects you spiritually to Jesus and helps in remembrance of him. The mass starts with introductory rites. The priest will then begin with, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and The Holy Spirit, Amen. I feel a spiritual connection during this as I feel as though I am connected to Jesus and he can hear me. Followed by this is the Liturgy of the Word. This usually includes; readings from the gospel, responsorial psalm, gospel acclamation, homily, the profession of faith and then ends with prayers of the faithful. This is important as it is when stories are told and you can pray individually or as a whole. I connect to this particular part of the mass as I feel as though I can connect with myself through prayer. Next is the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Included in this part of the liturgy are; the preparation of the altar and Eucharistic prayer. This is when the body and blood (bread and wine) is presented. I feel moved by this part of the liturgy as I feel a connection to Jesus himself through remembrance. To conclude the mass the concluding rites are read. I always enjoy this section as I feel like sins have been taken off my shoulders and I have been blessed by the priest and Jesus. For me, the catholic mass represents the remembrance of Jesus and the connection to him that all persons can have through various ways.

Text book definition: the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.

Personal definition: spirituality to me is connecting to yourself, connecting to your family and connecting to what makes you feel good. These could be happy memories, people or activities. Spirituality is to be connected with yourself. I believe that in life there is a journey set out for us.
