Oral Presentation: Notes for my speech by Citizens of Hope

When you have finished preparing notes for your speech, post them here. You can write down your notes on paper (and post a photo of your notes), or you can make a digital copy of your notes by typing them directly into the Padlet below (this is easy), by posting a link to your own Padlet document (this is fun), or by using a word processor such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and so on (this is practical).

Topic: "Chopsticks and South Korean culture"

Introduction: Good morning, my name is Cassia. I am from a small island in the Caribbean called St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and I want to talk to you today about some of the amazing things I've learned about South Korean culture from my friend, Vicky.

Visual aid: Use the map of world to show where both countries are located. Bring in a pair of chopsticks and a spoon for realia.

Body:

In SVG, I grew up using spoons and even my fingers for most of my meals.

Using a fork came later.

Came to Asia, no knowledge of how to use chopsticks.

Went to a wedding where the main eating utensil was the chopsticks.

Found myself in a predicament. I didn’t know how to go about eating the food. Now, I know a little about using chopsticks, because I would like to eat without anxiety if I ever go to another wedding.

If I were South Korean, I would know how to use a pair of chopsticks fairly well by about age 7. My parents would teach me the art of holding those two metal/stainless steel sticks (show realia) and having a go at my meal. I once read a story about a young boy in South Korea being taught how to use the chopsticks by his father spreading black beans across a table for him to pick up only using the chopsticks.

Most Korean meals are eaten with a spoon and chopsticks (show realia). Mostly metal or stainless steel, they are a big part of Korean culture whether it is for eating that Kimchi soup or bean soup eaten with rice at regular meals or at special celebrations such as at New Year’s Day. I know how to maneuver a spoon so that is one aspect of this culture that I can immediately identify with. I hope that one day like a 7 year old South Korean, I would become more skilled at handling the chopsticks.

Conclusion:

Summarize main points one more time.

"Thank you. Any questions?"

Oral Presentation Notes (3-10min) - Topic: Jehovah Sneaky

Hook:
Josh Cole - first man that made me believe that a quality that God has that one might not expect is that He is a sneaky God.
Not in a bad way - but he prepares us in ways we never expected
When I was in highschool:
- barely Christian
- dreamed of travel but didn't have means to
- I remember writing in my journal one night of how "if I ever went to do missions, I'd love to go to Nepal. And if I ever went to Africa I would want to go to Madagascar"
- how I ended up going including Josh Cole's lesson
Since then He has been incredibly sneaky in my life.

Introduction:
Once I realized God was sneaky, a whole lot more things started making sense in my life.
I was an incredibly shy, sensitive, introvert from my child years until my upper teenage years. I had an incredibly tender heart and all I enjoyed doing was the safety of my videogames.
I was a fairly smart kid though, however I wasn't too big on going for the highest grades because why would that matter to a videogame nerd with little motivation to life in general?
(If the enemy can't destroy you he'll make you ineffective, by the way)
I remember my father, who was one of MY highschool teachers, coming up to me often throughout middle and highschool and he would say "as long as you get around or above 80% because you're capable of getting that, I don't really care how long you spend playing videogames or doing other things."
Let me tell you I was the KING at getting 82%. If you look at my transcript for highschool LITERALLY half the grades are between 80-84%. I was very capable, I just didn't care enough to try.

Body:
When that's your mindset you really don't have much to look around and enjoy.
I'm in Costa Rica right now because Europe didn't work out (explain)
God confirmed my girlfriend and I to be together in this time by making a way for us (explain)
I have so much hope always now because every "bad thing" on paper is always used by God for something good if you look at it in growth Godly perspective. Every good thing is a blessing and so you can't lose with a God who can always use bad for good
When I was depressed months after finding God powerfully for the first time at age 17 I knew that at the other end I could help those who have been depressed and suicidal and so I lived on - Jehovah Sneaky
When I witnessed a man die by violent shooting I knew that I would be able to connect better with those with violent crime in their life or war - Jehovah Sneaky
When I was brought home from New Zealand to Canada because of COVID when I had my plane ticket booked to South Africa I was at peace because He needed me more in Canada - Jehovah Sneaky

Conclusion:
He is a sneaky God because every time in the big or small "bad" things there can be tremendous light. Not all things are easy to see light in at first but there is a God who sees His hurting world and wants to redeem it. People who have gone through the darkest trenches are those who can often bring the biggest lights for those who were trapped in the thickest darkness.
Bring hope through a God that is sneakily redemptive. If you live your life looking out for a sneaky God who is preparing you RIGHT NOW for something that is TO COME your cup of hope will be overflowing every day I can tell you that.
Faith is a verb. Live faith filled lives through a God who is close, who hears you, and who is beside you every moment.
Thank you.
