Post 1 - Character Traits - Walter

Easy going
"first thing a man ought to learn in life is not to make love to no colored women first thing in the morning...".(pg.27)
I chose this character trait easy going because that is how Walter is. Even in serious situation Walter makes jokes and is sarcastic. I choose this quote because in the act Walter and Ruth are arguing but yet Walter still makes a smart remark. It sets the tone early on how Walter is as a person.

Prideful
"... And we have decided to move into our house because my father-my father-he earned it for us brick by brick...".(Pg.148)
I choose this character trait because that is how Walter is. He is a very proud person. And this quote just shows that. He deny's the money that from Linder and deiced to move into the house anyway. He does this knowing that now he lost all of his money and gave away the last chance he had at getting it back.

My Opinion on Walter is that he is a proud man. He is proud of his family and what his father has done. He also is a wise cracker which is funny. I do sympathize for him. Losing his family money from his mistake must have felt terrible and denying the chance to felt that back makes him a good man.

In this piece of art it depicts an African American man with his daughter on his shoulders and a city in the background. This relates to Walter because he is a family man. He has a son who hes there for and that's what this piece is showing.

Can You See the Pride In the Panther
As he grows in splendor and grace
Topling obstacles placed in the way,
of the progression of his race.

Can You See the Pride In the Panther
as she nurtures her young all alone
The seed must grow regardless
of the fact that it is planted in stone.

Can You See the Pride In the Panthers
as they unify as one.
The flower blooms with brilliance,
and outshines the rays of the sun.
In this poem it talks about obstacles you face but still stay true to yourself. To have pride in yourself. It also talks about being there and caring for your kids. This relates to Walter because he does take care of Travis and he is a very proud man.
