This was a great article that discussed how important early literacy skills are. Teaching kids to love reading at an early age is such a great way to make sure that they are set up for success later in life. Basically, if you have a kid, read to them. Whether it is at home reading a book to them, or out in the world reading signs and logos. Whatever it is, make your child love reading!

This was another sweet article about the importance of early literacy. I think the most important thing thay I gained from this article is how important it is to actually KNOW your ABC's. Don't let your kid just remember and memorize the song. Teach them what the letters are and what they look like and what sound they make!

This article was all about preventing early literacy failure. It talked about the shift of literacy instruction that happened in the 90s to the 200s. The shift went to whole language instruction, then to intense phonics training. Personally, I think that understanding phonics is important and establishes a great base to reading. I think if you can figure out how to break words down and say them, learning what they mean will come with ease.

I really enjoyed reading this article. My favorite part was the piece about the kindergarten teacher that made her students reading "detectives". Their job was to find out a bunch of different ways that people read. Basically, the teacher made it clear that everyone learns differently. They found out a bunch of different ways that they can read and different things that they can read for. So many times, children see reading as only an educational thing and they don't see it as something that they can do for fun. It is up to us as educators to shift this mindset and make children love reading!
