Marshall was born on July 21, 1911, he was a Canadian philosopher and professor.
Marshall started as an engineering student, but in the end he studied for a Bachelor of Arts degree (1933).
After that he wanted to study literature and philosophy but as soon as he realized how technological changes reshaped peoples thinking he shifted his focus onto it.
Unable to work in Canada he moved to the U.S in 1936 (before converting into a catholic), in the university in which he gave English classes he met his wife (Corinne Lewis) and a figure who will influence him called Walter J.
In conclusion, he lived in a context in which a lot of technological and cultural changes were being made. Moreover, some of his most famous works were made during this time of technological changes, one of them known as The Gutenberg Galaxy and Understanding Media which introduced new and interesting concepts like “the medium is the message” or “the global village.”
His ideas and theories evolved through his life as new media surged, like the radio, television and network.
Finally, despite having survived a brain tumor, he died of a stroke in 1980. His work has been very revolutionary in media studies, technology and culture.
