Chris Front's session on Academic Integrity was really interesting and prompted me to think about applications/relevance between Honor Code at the Burroughs' School in St. Louis and DCDS. I'm hoping to bring aspects of this to discussion here at DCD. I am especially interested in the notion of "Reversing Trends" by focusing on small assignments and the importance of integrity from the bottom up so to speak.

I too was at the session discussing cheating trends among teens across the country... exploring what it means to be an honor code school, is it effective, are there alternatives, etc. The basics of what the presenter was explaining is that whole sale cheating is not generally the issue. It’s all of the little bendings of the rules and small steps towards dishonesty that blur the lines on what kids see as right and wrong that add up. He encouraged people to look at what we do to remove the temptation of dishonesty, along with having the conversations as to what truly is right vs wrong.

I am working on finding ways for students to focus on how they learn and not focusing as much on content. School should be as much about learning how to learn as about the content we are teaching in our classes.
