I work as project engineer. Sometimes the tasks I am required to do are very repetitive and boring. One thing that I can actively do to change the perception of this is actively working on the job site more and stepping away from the computer. As a student taking 18 credits this semester, the challenging job demands could be decreased if I were able to take less credits (I need 18 to graduate though). To maximize social job resources, more of my assignments (in class) would be group work where we get to socialize for a little bit and then get the work done together. When classes are only lectures it’s less enjoyable than working with a team. Another way to decrease challenging job demands would be allowing me to use extension passes where in each class I could extend a few assignments with no penalties

I work at cornerstone, and in terms of job crafting, we should craft the job to align more with the skills of a bar tender. There could be a mixology workshop a few times a month to experiment with types of new drinks. This would build employee empowerment and allow for skill growth, ultimately honing in on training while creating a more exciting workplace for the workers. Another aspect to indirectly craft would be customer engagement. This can be crafted by potentially creating personalized environment by challenging bar tenders to memorize “regulars” drink orders. This will make both the worker and the customer happy

In my most recent internship experiences, I felt as though they actually did a strong job in allowing interns to have input and provide their opinions on certain processes. The one thing that comes to mind is that as a Sales Internship, there were times times I felt that ”progress” or “success” was measured and defined too much on a KPI basis, in which higher volume of outreach was better, rather than prioritizing quality, even if lower quantity, outreach that is more likely to get stronger results.

I feel as though this can take away from some creativity, as I saw other interns as well as people in full-time roles sometimes prioritizing making sure they hit their Cold Call or Email KPI minimums, rather than trying to be creative and create more effective outreach.

This is a common theme across the Sales industry and across various different companies.

I work at a restaurant, where they encourage quickly turning over tables and serving as many groups as possible. I find the job more fun and enjoyable when I get to know customers and form relationships with them, especially because many people are frequent fliers. Encouraging connecting with customers and providing them with a positive experience would make the job a lot more meaningful. Additionally, I have learned a lot from the other staff members- line cooks, bartenders, etc. This allows me to better serve customers as I have a better understanding of the meals and drinks, and their ingredients. It really helps me be able to make recommendations to customers and describe menu items with more accuracy. Also, having relationships with my coworkers makes the work environment a lot more positive.

For me, I've found that a lack of support from the people I answered to made jobs I've held significantly more difficult. Autonomy is great, and it definitely makes the job more satisfying, but it doesn't mean a whole lot if you're not actually heard when you say you need something. Being given the tools and time I need to succeed at my job would have made a huge impact towards being satisfied with the job.

I would want more opportunities to engage with full-time and senior staff members. Some things to address this would involve granting me more autonomy to bring an issue directly to the head of the respective department as opposed to having to bring the issue to my boss to bring to the other department head. Or something smaller could include transitioning my one-on-one’s with by boss from Zoom back to in-person, where I would often get to socialize with the full-time and senior staff members in her part of the office building.

In my role this summer, the tasks I was doing everyday were very repetitive and not mentally challenging. I found that I was very bored a lot of the time. To improve that I could ask for more responsibilities to keep myself more entertained and challenged. I worked at a country club as a golf professional, work was very demanding and took up a lot of time. More time off would have been ideal in order to maximize our job productivity. It was hard to find time for gym, playing golf which increase our physical capital in regards to teaching and being a golf professional. I would have liked more time connecting with other golf professionals outside of our club, growing a network. Challenging demands would be individual lesson and fitting time without the presence of my boss. Reducing hinderance demands would have been hiring lower level employees to help with menial tasks, so the golf professional can focus on larger scale issues.

I currently work remotely which I enjoy a lot. If I continue to work in this role, after I graduate it would be more of a hybrid model. I would work in person 3 days a week and online 2. We would have a better conscience of our opportunity areas when it comes to golf skills such as ball striking, short game, putting etc. if we got to structure the practice plan based on our personal technical and performance needs on a daily basis. This would also increase our creativity by coming up with new drills and games to improve our game while also having fun. In addition, it would change the monotony that sometimes we can get to feel when we do drills that have been done in the past, increasing our curiosity and enthusiasm for that day’s practice.

I work in a retail store. We receive a dashboard on other stores performance operationally which is my department. I made it into a game for myself where I compete with different stores I pick out randomly. My goal is to beat them in at least 3/5 categories. For my digital marketing internship, I like knowing that I have control and responsibility for completing the projects. Knowing that there are deadlines I have to meet motivates me to do my best. Although the internship was completely online, I still was able to communicate with other people. I really liked how although we were online, we still made an effort to communicate with each other based on our ideas. There was so much healthy competition because we’d create projects that motivated each other to do better. I’d like to have more incentives.

I’m currently a TA and I have already crafted my job during the first meeting I had with the Professor. For example, the other TA and I have enlarged our job as we both are in charge of grading assignments. Therefore we can take our own pick of what assignments we want to grade, and that makes it interesting since some assignments are easy and some are harder to grade, and it also motivates me to get started so I can get my preferred assignment to grade.

Genuinely, I would say I need a job that has some sort of ooomph to it. One that I walk into and feel that they want/“need” me for that position, like “damn Aiden isn’t here, that’s going to set us back”(even though I will try to show up). So a more “you are just hands” kind of task isn’t my thing. I suppose this falls under job specialization

Another would be feedback, I would feel kind of empty if it felt like my boss could not tell if I really was a help or not, that personalized feedback would feel I’m less than a number.

Also importance, a job that has an impact on the company, not just something that could be completely failed and is just a shrug, but more “you were really helpful and the business is better off with you”

In my current job, I don’t always have much work. I was bored by the work provided because it was not mentally challenging and did not require me to learn new skills. Thus, I make an active effort to learn new skills so that I am more engaged and gain more applicable skills that I can put on my resume. For example, when my supervisor wants a photo edited for the newsletter, I will go the extra mile to learn how I could potentially accomplish that task even more effectively with Canva, photoshop, or another online tool. I previously worked at a children’s fitness center and my jobs included the same thing every time. I applied for a class instructor position but due to my timing of applying, I was put as a birthday party planner. This was not what I had applied for and I was able to ask for the ability to do both jobs. I also was interested in answering phone calls since I wanted to gain more experience and confidence doing it. I was able to control a lot of what I did at my job while still following protocol, and found my boss to be supportive and open to new suggestions.

Try to develop sustainable relationships with Coworkers. Along with this, trying to create some sort of competition between myself and coworkers in order to get more motivation. During my summer internship, me and a fellow intern actually raced to see who could find the most inconsistencies in Prices in an excel sheet.
Create presentations with others, not doing work alone
Delegating different tasks to different parts of the day, trying to complete more of the important work before lunch and then review results by the end of the work day, maybe with others
Working with background noise, watching pointless ESPN takes while doing a task that I’m familiar with
Try to relate to boss more and understand why he/she operates the way they do. It gives me more meaningfulness in my work
