Good product to export?

From using the USA Trade Online I was able to follow the directions in the handout and view the countries on the WorldWide Governance Index and the Exports and Imports By Country website. As I continued to use this I was able to select the measures, commodity, country, domestic/foreign, district and time which would ultimately be apart of the information that I input to determine if the country I have chosen to export has a good track record. The commodity that I chose was live animals. The total value of the goods for export at the U.S port of export In U.S dollars reached an all time high of roughly one billion three hundred million in June of 2021. From 1992 to 2005 the highest value was in 2001 and was valued at 896,659,439. From 2005 to 2009 the highest value was in 2008 for a total of 860,115,282. From 2009 to 2014 the highest value was in 2012 for a total of 1,189,530,232. Following this was 2014 to 2018 where the highest value was in 2018 for a total of 1,105,391,604. Lastly from 2018 to 2022 the highest value was during 2021 with an amount of 1,279,591,184. Although during the past thirty years there was ups and downs on the total value, there always was a bigger upside which can be shown by the value increasing by 382,931,745 since 2001. The live animals are a good export with showing a strong dependable cash flow. Having the financial strength to compete with foreign products and services with quality and prices. Some of the animals included hoses, sheep, ducks, mules and various other animals. The country of the live animals are from all over as I selected all geographic regions as a world total. In addition to this I selected all districts as I followed up by selection of domestic/ foreign option as total exports. Ultimately after all of the information was inputted and I was able to view the chart and visualize the data I was able to see upwards trends in having live animals as my commodity and that allowed for the determination of this being a good product to export.

Grayson Mills - Nuclear Reactors Exports

The commodity I chose is nuclear reactors, boilers, and machinery. My reasoning for choosing this is because it seemed like nuclear reactors would be an interesting product to examine the imports and exports of. The Country I chose was the US, with a specification to Wilmington, NC for its district. I primarily chose this because I thought choosing an area within the same state that I live in would be interesting to learn about. The information provided by the US Census Bureau is quite intriguing. When looking at it, you can see that from 2012-2017, Wilmington’s exports of nuclear reactors remained more or less the same with around 376-480 million. In 2018, however, there was a large spike of nuclear reactors with the total exports being 651,729,984. In 2019, a large decrease is seen which is most likely due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 2019s exports were 342,451,242. 2020 saw an even more dramatic decrease in exports at 219,352,087. As the pandemic progressed past 2020, exports of nuclear reactors have once again begun to increase with 2022 exports so far being 461,293,776. When using the Worldwide Governance Index and the Exports and Imports By Country websites, it can be seen that the US has a relatively healthy track record when it comes to their exports and imports. On the Worldwide Governance Index, the US is lacking in one spot which is Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism. Between 2011-2021, absence of violence and political stability can be seen to significantly decrease. In 2011, it was roughly around 60%. In 2021, however, it is around 45%. Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, and Control of Corruption remain relatively the same between 2011 and 2021. When looking at the USA Economic Indicators, it expresses that the US economy has remained relatively the same since 1960 with its economic growth only increasing by 1.8%. Inflation, however, has risen 7.75% since 2001 and unemployment has risen 3.5% since 1960. When looking at Business Cycle Indicators, industrial production has increased by 5.33% since 1960 and the House Price Index has increased by 218.22% since 2000. The Energy mix tab would be the most important tab for determining the significance of nuclear reactors in the US. Nuclear power generation has increased by 789.88% from 1980-2020. In addition to this, the nuclear electricity compacity has also increased by 96.50% from 1980-2020. These two percentages explain that nuclear energy has risen significantly within the past four decades within the US and thus making the US optimal for importation of nuclear reactors.

Exports and Imports for cereal in the united states.

The commodity I decided to choose on ‘USA TRADE ONLINE” was cereal. The reason I choose cereal was because of the wide variety of cereals and the high demand of cereal all around the world. I choose the United States as the country with a specification in the district savannah Georgia to examine it exports out of because of the knowledge I already have of the United States, and I am from Marietta which is near savannah. While using the USA trade online to find out whether cereal exports in the United States has a good track record, I was able to determine that cereal doesn’t do as well as I would’ve thought in terms of imports and exports out of Savannah Georgia. When I was looking at the tables and charts for cereal exports out of savannah, I was able to determine this wasn’t the best place for exporting cereals, but the United States had the best market for cereal imports and exports. When looking at the world governance index it showed north America to be in the upper 80th percentile in almost on indicators proving that the US has good and strong imports/exports. Domestic exports out of savannah Georgia for cereal have been falling since 2017 so I believe that savannah is not ideal for cereal exports in north America.

For this report, I chose to study the data of live animal exports out of Houston Tx. I choose Houston as I used to live there, and I was fairly curious as to what kind of data we could possibly have for live animal exports out of there. I am not incredibly surprised to see that the levels are pretty low when it comes to exports. This is probably a good thing, as I would imagine that if we were exporting live animals, it is not for anything good. That being said, in 2012 there was a massive spike in exports (over $140 million worth). This makes me really wonder what could possibly have been exported or imported during the year 2012 that would cost this much. 2013 also was a higher year, coming in at just over $80 million, but these are the only two years that are remotely high. I did not live in Houston at this time, so I cannot speak for what could be the cause for this but I do know that Houston has a fairly large zoo, so it could potentially have to do with this. The Houston Zoo was opened in the 1900’s, so it isn’t anything new, but potentially it was remolded or something similar in the year 2012/2013 and that would cause this massive spike it exports. I would personally not choose to export to Houston based on their levels, as I am sure there are countries that have much higher live animal export levels than Houston does. Many Middle Eastern, Asian, and African countries are known for their live animal exports so I would choose a country from one of these continents first before I would choose a place in the US. The US is not known for its live animal exports, and for this I am grateful.

The commodity I chose to use on ‘USA Trade Online’ was live animal exports. I chose this as I thought there would always be a demand for live animals across the whole world. I randomly chose a European country, Denmark. I can see from the graph that Denmark's exportation of live animals has increased and decreased throughout the years, from 1992 up to 2004 it decreased then increased each year, then 2004 to 2014 it would increase for a few years then decrease for a few years. In 2019 Denmark reached the peak of its exports of live animals with a number of over 4,780,000 dollars, however, following this year it has decreased each year till the current time of September, 2022. It has decreased dramatically since its peak in 2019 with 2022 having an export number of around 900,000 dollars, this is a tiny amount compared to 2019. Due to previous years of exportation we know that it is possible for the exportation rate to decrease for a few years before going back up. This could apply to the current situation where next year or maybe a couple of years the exportation rate of live animals will go back up again. I believe the country I have chosen, Denmark, has a good track record of exportation, although not every year is better than the last. They seem to be increasing the amount of exporting gradually. It is interesting how their first year 1992 was their third best year of exporting with a number of around 2,000,000 dollars.

I looked on the Tariff Tool lookup on exporting basketballs to Jordan. Using HS code 6404.11.0000 with the product and exporting from United States to Jordan. The US has a Free Trade Agreements with 20 different countries, with one of them being the country of Jordan. United States-Jordan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed in 2001 by President Bush. They also established a program called Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZ), that allows products to enter the United States duty free if manufactured in Jordan. The US and Jordan have a good partnership with completing the plans they set out to accomplish. Jordan has low average tariffs, ad valorem-only duties, low digit rates and nearly 100% tariff bindings. They believe in multilateral trading system and the strengthening of free and fair global trade. That is good news for exporting basketballs to Jordan. A priority for Jordan is implementing the Trade Facilitation Agreements and several parts of the Bali Agreement. The expected gains are steady increase in trade, greater export diversification, enhanced foreign investment and improved natural competitiveness. Jordan is a member of WTO, and they impose a simple average tariff of 10.9. Jordan also has a general sales tax and a special tax the government imposes on importation. Over the years the special tax goes up. Net profits from most exports remain fully exempt from income tax. 98% of foreign inputs used in production of exports are exempt from custom duties. Custom duties and taxes on imports has a scale of five rates on most common goods 0%, 5%, 10%, 20% or 30%. After their final phase of tariff reductions in 2010, there are zero duties on nearly all products. They have adopted a trade policy based on economic openness, even with the economic crisis and regional challenges they are currently facing. They believe this policy has economic development, economy’s competitiveness and a better business environment, thus causing Jordan to rank 38th on trade openness indicator and 5th in MENA region index of economic freedom. They have reaped the benefits of global economic integration and achieving GDP growth rate of 5% in the last decade. The United States-Jordan Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed, it was aimed to help countries in economic development the US supported Trade and Investment Framework Agreements (TIFA) with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The US had goals of peace and stability in the MENA region. The framework aimed at increasing US exports as well as assisting in the development of intra-regional economic ties. In 2008 the MENA countries would rank 4th as an export market for the United States and 5th as the largest supplier of imports to the US. In 2017 US goods export to Jordan was estimated $2 billion and up 35% from 2016. Jordan is ranked around 59th largest export market for US goods. Jordan was the US 66thlargest goods export in 2016.

I was curious to see how much was the total export of meat in my country Italy and to be honest I expected to see these numbers. I used the value chart as official measure. I chose meat because I have always believed that it was one of the best products produced in Italy so that I was confident to see the results on the chart!

When I looked at the chart for the first I was a little bit surprised to see low values on January-February and March in 2002. Even if Italy did not have a great start we reached a great number of exports in September 2002 with a total of 700,280 exports. I checked out the number of total domestic and foreign exports in 2005 too and it seems they increased of value. The highest valued registered was 598,117,313 millions of exports. On the other hand, in 2005 there was a big decrease on foreign exports indeed few of them were exported.

Also I looked at the most recent values that were registered from 2010 until 2022 and there are visible difference. For example in 2010 our total amount of domestic/foreign exports rose up and it never diminished until the early 2020. I guess this means that we have created a good market with other foreign countries selling out most of our meat products and importing new products in our country through trade.

Years 2020-2021-2022 are definitely the years in which Italy suffered most as exports because we can see it from the data shown on the chart, indeed there were a large decrease on our products' export. However, there have been some positive changes on the foreign exports in years 2012 and 2015 with an average of 7,599,998 of products exported in 2012.

The commodity I chose on “USA Trade Online” was cereal. I think that cereal is a great product specially for a country like the United States. The reasons for this are because of several factors. America is a giant country with a lot of different climates, meaning that you can use the size and the weather to your advantage to grow different types of cereal. This will give us a good variety of different types of cereal that we could export to the countries that required it. The variety in the cereal will help in the export aspect. This is because we could make better deals thank to all the cereal we present. We can also sell it in two different types. The first type will be ground, and we could mix different types of cereal to make it unique. The second type will be regular in a box, perfect for breakfast. All this variety of cereal will help increase the revenues and will help with the imports because we will bet better deals with the countries we are trading with. Looking at the graph you can tell that the exports reduce drastically for 5 months. The graph shows that the best months to export are from August to December. During December, January and February decrease the amount that it’s been exported, and then from February to March, we have a huge drop in exports that will remain like that until August. Cereal is possibly one of the best things you can trade with because it’s something that every country needs. Grain is required to make a lot of foods and knowing the countries that you should export to will help once you need to import from them. This will make you get better deals and better importation of raw materials. RAMON FERNANDEZ

Ezequiel Ruiz: I choose Aluminum as the main product that is being trade from the US to Argentina. In this case we are going to analyze Argentina's market and how it relates with the US market compared to their exports and imports. I choose this country because it is where I come from and has a lot of history of trade with the US. Argentina's GDP was predicted to be $445.5 billion in 2019 (at current market exchange rates), the real GDP was down an estimated 2.2%, and there were 45 million people living there.
An estimated $23.3 billion in goods and services were traded between the United States and Argentina in 2019. $15.7 billion in exports and $7.5 billion in imports. In 2019, the U.S. and Argentina's goods and services trade surplus was $8.2 billion.
With $13.1 billion in total (two-way) goods trade in 2019 Argentina is currently our 40th largest trading partner. $8.2 billion worth of goods were exported and $4.9 billion worth of goods were imported. 2019 saw a $3.2 billion goods trade surplus between the United States and Argentina. In 2019, expected trade in services (imports and exports) with Argentina reached $10.2 billion. Services were exported for $7.6 billion and imported for $2.6 billion. In 2019, the United States' services trade surplus with Argentina was $5 billion. According to the United Nations' COMTRADE database on global commerce, Argentina imported aluminum worth $9.77 million from the United States in 2021. Within a total trade volume of USD 12,000 million in 2017, Argentina had a trade deficit with the United States of USD 3,430 million. Due to the decline in Argentine purchases abroad as a result of the recession and the skyrocketing dollar this year, that historic deficit was decreasing.
