Although this book is on the shorter side it conveys many powerful lessons that really reached me. The most impactful of these in my opinion is to make the changes you see necessary to accomplish your goals. One quote that shows us how John Lewis is pushed to this is "I started to feel guilty for not doing more. I became Restless." Although this happened at a young age it started his drive to right the wrongs of the world. We see this take effect later when he says "This was a life decision..., and it was near impossible to turn me away from it." As a child he would attend the segregated school systems of Pike County Alabama. He would later Graduate from Fisk University with multiple Bachelor degrees and then would graduate from a baptist seminary school. At an early age he wanted to join the Civil Rights Movement. He would organize sit in's and segregated lunch counters and in in 1961 he would join a freedom ride to challenge the idea of segregation. By 1963 he was recognized as one of the six leaders of the civil rights movement at the age of 23. From the year 1963 to 1966 he would organize and lead over six hundred non-violent marches. In 1981 he was elected to serve on the Atlanta city council. Activists worked together and used non-violent protest and specific acts of targeted civil disobedience," This is important because it shows how they went about getting the changes that were desperately needed and the control they have over there emotions by being peaceful and non-violent even when they had every right to lash out. Through the ways of this movement they would change many thing's which is shown by "Between 1954 and 1968, civil rights legislation was passed. Fundamental and lasting change was made during this relatively short period of time and its impact can be seen in a myriad of ways in our society today.
