I've often said that my favorite color is about 3 or 4 pm, in the redwood forests in the dead of summer. The sunlight is streaming through leaves, honey gold and backlighting all the leaves into unbelievable greens and the ruddy bark becomes copper dipped feathers. Somewhere nearby, a silver stream tickles over stony beds. It smells like someone taking a nap, and sunbaked dirt. While at the beach shore one day I decided to go snorkeling within the enclosed beach area. I had swam all the way out to the sea wall that separated the beach area waters from the rest of the ocean. While snorkeling I noticed a grey mass quickly approaching from below. I panicked as the grey mass drew near. Then my eyes fixated on the mass and was in shock and excited to find that it was a green sea turtle. This turtle had somehow got past the sea wall and within the enclosed beach area. While there I had swam from island to island while my friends paddled a canoe. Eventually we stopped at a small cove along the lake shore. To my surprise, as I was standing in knee high water small catfish swam up to me. They found me to be friendly and vice versa as they let me pet their soft slimy skin as they swam in circles around my legs.
