Survey on PBI Students' confidence in Public Speaking

This survey aims to find PBI students feel when they are doing public speaking and how many times that thay have had done publi speaking. All of the participants are PBI students in semester 3 who are taking school observations and teaching and learning principle class, and they have to be able to do Public Speaking when they are doing a presentation.

The questionnaire was sent through WhatsApp and Line to PBI students, and the researcher has received 19 responses. 

Participants

The survey involved 11 female and  8 male students, and they were 11 students are 20 years old, 5 students are 19 years old, and 3 students are 18 years old. And all of the participants are living in the Yogyakarta whether in a dorm or in a house.

Findings

When asked about how many times and what kind of public speaking that they prefer, 45 percent students have done 3-5 times in less than 2 years and 57.89 percent prefer presentation. It is because the presentation is a compulsory skill in every course that they took. When it comes to their feeling when they do Public Speaking, 52.63 percent of students are confidence while 47.37 students are still nervous. The students who feel confident stated that Public Speaking is fun and challenging, whereas the nervous team stated that they are afraid to make mistakes. 68.42 percent students are afraid to not prepared enough when they do Public Speaking. Thus, 77.78 percent of them are practicing to overcome it. okay. It means that they did not feel that meeting foreigners are a threat, or something intimidating for them. In specific, 84.21 percent of students think that debate is the hardest public speaking compare to others.
