This was the start of a very complex project Mrs. Abrams suggested. My past two projects didn't go super well in my eyes, and I thought it would be best if I made something simple. Sadly, Mrs. Abrams had a different vision for me. I decided to take her idea and run with it. This project required 6 square slabs, and 6 sets of 4 differently shaped scalene triangles. First the 6 slabs would be used to create a square, Then, each set of same sized triangles would extrude from one side of the square, creating a pyramid.

This one one of easiest parts of the project. I did have fun learning how to bevel the edges, and i enjoyed the process. However, this was when I started to realize I bit off more than i could chew. I asked someone else to show me how to bevel the edges of the triangle slabs I had made. In there example, they had used the wrong side of the tool. Being a very observant individual. I made sure to use the same side they used, not knowing it was wrong. This resulted in me having to remake all 24 triangles and redo all the templates.

The Start of Something (Almost) Great

I really liked this part of the project because of all the small details. I was quite sad that it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, but I spend 2 weeks free-handing a very complex grid style of art. The art is typically used to develop video games, but i used it because it was all straight lines and I felt that it matched the project. This part seemed to catch people's eye so I kept it, even though I had the urge to change it a few times. Overall, I think that if the lines were a few millimeters deeper it would have been a lot more aesthetically pleasing. I also put my ventilation holes in at this times to refrain from needing to do it when the project was in a less sturdy configuration. In the picture, you can see the interior design, ventilation holes, and additive clay that acted as a reinforcement for the base.

This was the first time I put the triangles on. It went well, but it took a ton of time and tears, I wanted it to not meet in the middle because it seemed original, but I didn't realize what this entailed in terms of working with the clay. I had to score and slip for 2 full days because they couldn't hold up there weight. The slabs were structrally fine, but the mending of the clay wasn't working in my favor. I then realized that i could follow the same process, but after I packed the inside seems with clay. This process worked and taught me a ton. I then used what I learned on the rest of the project.

As seem in this picture, the project stopped being enjoyable, and instead I knew that i had to rush to meet the deadline. I tried my best to get the sides to be even and symmetrical. To do this, I kept trimming the triangles, but still it didn't turn out to my liking. This took another few days and led to a lot of stress.

This is picture that shows all the sides. Even though it wasn't what I wanted, I valued the things I learned and was able to use them on the free choice project. Little bit sad, but it was a good experience overall. This was before all the finishing touches were made, to show how it looked without any sugar coating. If I could fix anything, it would be the attention to detail. I think a struggle that hurt me a lot, was the changing of teachers. Both teachers were great, but they had different instructions and ways of doing things. It wasn't a bad thing and ended to me learning from both perspectives. I viewed this project more as a learning period because from the start, I knew it was beyond what I was confident in making.
