The concept of person within the nursing phenomena is based around who the nurse is caring for and why this person needs their care. Each person has their own unique experiences with different nurses/ doctors and these specific experiences affect how they are going to interact with nurses in the future. A great example would be if a person had a bad experience with a nurse, they may be less trusting, scared, agitated, etc. The way nurses care for someone can directly affect how a person will act, or react, depending on the situation.

Health can be defined in different ways depending on who is defining it. My definition of health is the mental or physical well-being of a person. Changes in someone's mental or physical state can lessen, or improve their health. Health can also be subjective or objective, thus varying the definition. Regardless of how someone defines health, a nurse should treat each person the same. This is extremely important because the care a nurse gives, can create changes in a person's health. Methods of promoting health are taking initiative, having a balanced diet, education, and more. Taking initiative of your own health can cause prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary). By going to the doctor regularly and receiving annual screenings, you are utilizing primary prevention. This means you are practically preventing injury and/or disease before it occurs. In my opinion, this method of promoting health is one of the most important. Having a balanced diet could also be considered primary prevention because having proper nutrition can eliminate many health related problems. Additionally, all of these methods of promoting health cannot be done without education. If someone is not educated in prevention and having good nutrition, how are they supposed to know what they can do for their health? Continuing, without research and further education of psychosocial things like cigarettes, it is easy for people's health to decline because they are unaware of the negative affects cigarettes can have on the body. Using psychosocial things like cigarettes, is a method of not promoting their health. There are many other examples of not promoting one's health which vary the degree of their health decline. A great example of balancing between promoting health and not promoting health is having proper nutrition most of the time, but eating "unhealthy" things like fast food every once in awhile.

The environment in which someone is receiving health care is vitally important for various reasons. It is important for a health care environment to be exceptional because it can affect the person receiving the health care. A positive, radiant, and caring health care environment can improve someone's health mentally and physically. Being in a good mental space while enduring treatments correlates with the outcome they will receive. If you are motivated as a person to get better and have a positive outlook, your results/ outcomes are much more likely to improve as well. This is why all environments surrounding health care should be taken into consideration when planning care for someone because even the smallest things like a positive attitude, can help improve health. Other environmental considerations to think about are resources. If one hospital has updated machinery and resources than another hospital, you would expect someone's health to be better, or improve faster, at the updated one. That being said, certain environmental factors like resources can directly affect a nurse's care simply due to not having the correct, or best, equipped health care facility. Nurses should still try their best with what they have, and adapt like how Florence Nightingale did when treating soldiers during the war. Her perseverance of using the resources she had and adapting to her environment impacts nursing still to this day.

Nursing is a profession within healthcare that involves helping improve the lives of others. Nurses are the center of patient care that not only help improve one's health, but also truly care about people's well-being. The best nurses go above and beyond just checking off the care plan and list of things to do for patients of each shift they work. Nurses in the past and present continue to impact how nursing is carried out by coming up with new innovative ideas and continuing to use evidence based practice. A person's need for nursing care can be used from subjective or objective data. Subjective data is what the individual person, or the person's family, tells the nurse. For example, someone rating their pain an 8 out of 10. Objective data is what the nurse observes. An example of this would be observing a wound on a patient. The need for a nurse's care changes based on data collected and by using evidence based practice.

The concepts of person, health, environment, and nursing influence all make up the nursing phenomena. They are all building blocks that combine and intertwine with one another to framework the profession of nursing. In addition to these concepts, evidence based practice (research) is continually changing the way of nursing.
The personal wellness of myself as a nurse can directly correlate to the nursing phenomena. This is because if I am not promoting health and a positive environment myself, how are my patients supposed to? How are they supposed to trust me as a nurse if I am not keeping up on my physical and mental well-being as well? In short, they can't. I am going to be the nurse that takes care of herself, so that I am able to take the best care of others that I can. Many nurses are so focused on their job that they forget to also think about themselves, which in the long run can cause them to begin having a decrease in their health.
