My parents originate from India, being born there with my elder sister and brother. However, in 2002, my family moved to Singapore, where I was born. My mother has 4 siblings and my dad has 2 siblings, resulting in a massive extended family. Most of my cousins and much older than me, however, I try keeping in touch with them as much as possible. On January 10, 2021, my brother went to New Jersey for his university, but will try to come in May, after his exams. Hopefully, he is able to come due to Covid restrictions.

I live with my mother, father, sister and dog Woolly. My parents are Indian, but they went to Australia for university which was where I was born. They then came to Singapore, where my sister was born. We adopted our dog here around 4 years ago, and we all love having him around. My extended family consisting of uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents etc. live around the world, in places like The Netherlands, USA and India, and we sometimes go visit them. I keep in touch with my grandparents and my maternal aunt, uncle and cousin however I'm not close to the rest of my extended family.

Although I was born in Sydney, I lived in Singapore for 14 out of my 15 years alive. My parents moved to Singapore when I was young, because they both got better jobs than the ones they had in Sydney.

Neither places really feel like home but I love both places very much. We still have lots of friends in Tokyo and we go for ski trips with them often.

One of the most challenging times of my life was at secondary school. I went to a school in a deprived area, with high unemployment and low aspirations. I struggled to fit in (not uncommon for anyone in their teenage years). Reflecting on this experience it taught me a great deal about myself and others, about other people situations and perspectives on life. I feel this time in my life drove me towards teaching, and particularly drew me towards working at school that provide opportunities that were not afforded to people in my community,

Although my extended family practices the Indian culture, having never lived there, I do not really identify with it. I don't speak the language, celebrate the festivals, or believe in the religion. Even my parents seem to have drifted away from Indian culture, and developed their own interpretation of it. This can be seen through their way of celebrating festivals like Diwali, where they will have a party with friends instead of celebrating the traditional way.

My whole family, including my extended family members are catholic. I have been raised in a catholic family, going to church every Sunday, attending Sunday school when I was little, getting baptised and going to communion. My baptism name is Francesca Romana, one that all my church friends always struggled to pronounce. I always make sure to pray before meals and sometimes at night.

Another big factor in the way I grew up was the activities I have done/do. I have tried many different sports to see which one fits me the best, I have done Ballet, Gymnastics, Touch, Football and Swimming. The one that stood out to me the most/ interested me the most was gymnastics. Even as I was trying these other sports I was still going to gymnastics, ever since I remember I have been doing gymnastics wether it is at a club or the school. It is defiantly something I don't think I could ever live without. Gymnastics has shown me how to manage my time, learn to push myself and how to perform under pressure. Gymnastics has given me so many opportunities, such as multiple SEASACs, National championships, Singapore open and even travelling to countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Australia to compete. I am grateful that my parents made me go into the sport at such a young age and are still able to send me to gymnastics. I am also grateful for all the friends I have made since I started gymnastics such as Alina - I have been competing with her for about seven years.

It has been almost a ''second home'' to me, not only because of the amount of time I have spent here but the friends and activities. Additional to that three days of the week i am usually at the school for more than 11 hours and even come to school on saturday for about four hours.

My mother tongue is definitely Korean, but having been in a international or English speaking school for my whole life and even living in America when I was young, I have been over accustomed to using English. There was a period when I only used English to communicate with my family members, from which I began to forget my Korean. Now being in Singapore, I know how important it is to keep my mother tongue alive so I take the HLP program.

I've been learning English since four(?) years old, Chinese since third grade, and French from last year.
