In terms of material SOL, Brazil saw an increase. As shown in extract 3, Brazil had a 25% increase in infrastructure budget which allows for it to cover 27 projects in urban development and public transport including a newly added fourth metro line for Rio. This allows Brazilians to better enjoy the increase in quantity of goods and services. Leading to an increase in material SOL.

Ultimately, standard of living has increased for Brazilians, but may not be to a large extent. Table 1 shows HDI increased which may be due to the shrink in Brazil’s underground economy (Extract 6). However, the extent of increase in standard of living is mitigated by decrease in real GDP, and assuming population has no change, there might be a smaller extent of increase. Hence population data should be provided as changes in population determine overall standard of living. If GDP falls as population increases, the extent of increase in standard of living is smaller, while if population decreases, extent of increase in standard of living is larger.
