         <description><![CDATA[<p>A lot of my studies, primarily in my third year, and my research proposal were surrounding the Jukskei River in Douglasdale and how effective citizen science data would be to monitor it; however, there is one major question that comes to mind based on other related studies due to sources of pollution on the main river further upstream.</p><p><br/></p><p>Research Question: </p><p>What are the primary sources of pollutants entering the Jukskei River in Douglasdale, and how do they relate to upstream pollution patterns identified in Alexandra?</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Doing research investigates whether microplastics in surface sediments influence the germination and early growth of harmful algal bloom resting stages. It focuses on the interaction between microplastic pollution and benthic seed banks, which play a central role in bloom initiation in eutrophic systems. Roodeplaat Dam was selected because it has a documented history of recurrent cyanobacterial blooms linked to nutrient enrichment and internal loading processes , making it an appropriate system for studying bloom dynamics. The dam is also located within an urbanised catchment exposed to wastewater discharge and runoff, which are recognised sources of microplastics in freshwater systems. </p>]]></description>
