The examples of the artworks presented in class are so clear and beautiful that despite viewing it on a screen, it felt like I was standing in front of the painting. It is amazing to think about how paintings can evoke a certain feeling. The works of art by Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo Da Vinci, to name a few, are truly mesmerizing. The craftsmanship speaks for itself, no wonder their works are posted on the most grand museums or archives all over the world. The elements and the principles of design are perfectly balanced and blended with one another. My favorite piece in fact is 'The Madonna of the Pinks' by Raphael. The first time I saw it in class, I was immediately taken back. I loved how it depicted the close and tender relationship of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. I am truly amazed by the techniques used, the precision of the strokes can alone speak for itself. I am quite curious as to how painters go about with their work - do they sketch it out first then apply paint or do they let the creative juice take over then just clean up afterwards? Likewise, how do painters decide on where some pieces will go and what colors will go best? My father loved panting on a black canvas and just letting the creative juice flow. His love for painting was actually passed on to my sister, but sadly not to me. Our house is full of their different artworks, from the portrait of the angelic Mother Mary to the monster in my father's nightmare. With this said, I am quite familiar with how painting is revered as a fine art. My sister and I enjoy going to museums and art shows that showcases different works, not just of the more popular ones. In addition, I may not have inherited the creative gene, however I do have a profound admiration for those who are gifted and talented in the painting department.
