When we consider reading difficulties, we frequently picture kids who find it difficult to interpret written words into spoken language. This kind of struggling reader has weak phonological (speech-sound) comprehension and finds it extremely difficult to understand many of the words. Nonetheless, there are a lot of students who read well on the surface but struggle with comprehension of vocabulary and figurative language, inferencing, verbal reasoning, grammatical development, and expressiveness in speech. It's beneficial to teach new word meanings through the use of multimodal tools like graphic organizers, visuals, and mnemonics, as kids with low comprehension frequently have poor vocabulary skills and understand less of what they hear (Nina Parrish, Feb 3, 2020). This will help both group of students with reading difficulties. Teaching new vocabulary will help students learn how to read and comprehend books.
