Year 2013-2014 Video Remake of 'Bad Idea' by Aluna George

The genre for this music video is POP. The reason I chose to analyse this music video was because it was evident that the students put in a lot of effort not just when filming but also when editing. For example, as well as the various different cuts used there was also hand drawn animations:

MISE-EN-SCENE

There is not a specific type of costume used which is quite common in Pop music videos. The clothing is quite casual and comfortable. There were quite a few props used such as: the game controller to represent how he does not pay attention to her, the skateboards showing that the video is set in a skate park, and the cup at the end given to her by another guy.

There are various different locations used such as someone's house which is a great idea as there are less risks when filming such as bead weather or having to film in large crowds. Moreover, the skate park and other outdoor locations used helped make the video more professional and chow that they put a lot of effort and though into their mise-en-scene.

According to Goodwin's theory I would say that this music video remake follows his idea of illustration. This is where the music video relates to the story that is being presented in the lyrics.

This music video follows Vernallis' analysis of how music videos generally use obvious edits and many jump cuts rather than the typical continuity editing usually seen in films. The shots change to the beat of the song to help the video flow and link to the song.

I feel that this video challenges Mulvey's theory of the Male Gaze as it does not show a sexual representation of women or objectify women at all. The song is written and performed from a woman's perspective meaning that she has an active role rather than passive.
