But I have heard form fellow IT-managers at school that they sometime feel squeezed between the two roles. Our school have two locations one really old and one built in 2009. Labeling in the old location is not good, at the new site it's all good. In 2009 I was looking as the building was built, I follower the guys and girls that were doing the wiring. And also the people setting up the switches (Cisco), and wireless access points. I learnt a lot from that. I not only am the only IT-administrator at our school but I also teach 15 hours of math every week. It is indeed pretty demanding to combine these both jobs. I feel like my job as an IT-administrator never ends and that there are always a lot of things I haven't done yet. I also notice that my teaching suffers from it to some extent. I work in vocational high school and yes, I teach and manage school IT infrastructure. Last year we had very big organizational change in our school so we had a lot of construction adaptation. The network was built from the start. We have CISCO router, two old PCs with m0n0wall and 6 GigaLAN switches distributed through the school. With every switch we have patch panel and all connections are labeled.

I teach Computer Science full time so this part of my job is a kind of extra job for me. This is common problem in my country, Computer Science teachers have to be web administrators, computer technicians and network administrators…

My biggest problem is that I don’t have technical background so networks are sometimes hard for me to understand. I learned a lot, but there is still a lot to learn so I hope this MOOC will help me.

I work in a secundary school, we have several campusses, but I only work in one campus. The campus I work in consists of about 5 buildings, each connected to our network. Every switch has it's own patchpanel. We are currently renovating our buildings or building new buildings on our campus. One building has extensive cablemanagement, meaning that all cables go straight to our serverroom in the patchpanel. The patchpanel is then connected to our switches, all joined in one switch cabinet.

Another building has all the switches in the individual classrooms or a switch cabinet for each floor, but again with patchpanels. Then the individual switches are connected to our core switches, where our servers and router are connected.

The main problem for us is to keep an eye on the plan of our network during our renovation. As a lot of classes are being moved, we have to install new computerlabs in places where there is no network available.

My job as a ict manager is only for a couple of hours, the main part of my job is teaching ict, like most of you here.

I'm an ICT teacher currently working in primary education. I teach computing subjects to young kids (k1-k6) 23 hours per week. In order to complete my teaching timetable I have to move to a second school for six hours per week. In addition to my teaching job I have to operate and control the two IT labs (one per school), assist my colleagues with their computer problems and work closely with my school administration in order to operate and maintain the school 's centralised database application. When I first arrived on my current school there was a small LAN on the lab, and a couple more PCs for administrative and teachers' tasks. With the help of my headmaster and the parent's union I managed to change the old infrastructure, buy a new server, and bring some more PCs offered by a company. My server runs Ubuntu LTSP 12.04 and I control my students PCs using the Epoptis monitoring tool. I haven't labeled my cabling yet but I keep a relative database and I'm planning to do it soon. Luckily, about 18 months ago we received another mobile lab (10 laptops) and we extended our network infrastructure almost all around our school. My job is quite difficult and time demanding and many days I spend lots of extra hours of work there, but I really love it and I don't care for the extra effort I'm paying for it!

I teach use of mobile ICT to adults. I don't much work with wired networks (more Wifi/BYOD). Because I used to work in the theatre I am very aware of the importance of labelling and patch panels (a technology originally from lighting boards and phone exchanges I think?)

Hi, I'm fulltime IT coordinator with responsability for several more or less complex networks. I agree with Elena's assessment of the importance of documenting your network. Labeling your patches as they are laid, can save you a big headache in the future. In addition I would recommend making a plan with the layout of your network. Not only for your own reference in the future: the one who inherits your network will be gratefull for this work!

We have two computer rooms and at the minute we are having issues with the internet dropping at different times during the day, it seems to be when both rooms are in use. I was talking to a ICT company and the think it is a switch issue. Last year I organized an ICT course for teachers and staff. The high school where I work has a basic network cabling, has some deficiencies in the ANSI / TIA / EIA-568 standard.
In Peru for 2 years has been implemented JEC schools (Jornada Escolar Completa -Full School Day). I am working as coordinator of innovation and technological support - CIST (Coordinador de Innovación y Soporte Tecnológico) with fixed-term contract (CAS - Contrato Administrativo por Servicio). I am the ICT co-ordinator in school and that means I am the first point of contact for my colleagues when something goes wrong. I do not know enough about the LAN/Network. The layout of our school makes it hard for good networking/wifi. However we have a networked printer which all staff use to print in the office. We also have good wifi in all rooms. I find it's hard to answer all teacher's questions as I am teaching all day and can get no/very little cover if I need to go to a room. This would lead to my class being left unsupervised which is not an option. I am hoping to learn more about networking.

Hello all, My name is Tassos and I am teaching IT subjects in a Vocational school in Greece while at the same time managing the school IT infrastructure. Some of the subjects I'm teaching are Programming Languages (Python, PHP), Operating Systems, Databases, HTML etc.

Teaching and managing the whole network along with other tasks like administering school's Central Database is really challenging and demanding, especially this year, that the Ministry of Education in Greece decided that no extra time is needed for all these extra tasks!!! In any case, our IT in infrastructure consists of three (3) computer labs. Last year we made a major reorganization by replacing our File Server with a new one which is now acting as an Application, File and Terminal server. Microsoft's Hyper-V on the server is hosting two virtual machines, one LTSP and one MS Windows 2012 Server while client machines are booting from network (PXE) and they are able to connect to either Linux (LTSP) or Microsoft Remote Desktop Server. No more fat clients, updates, upgrades etc.

I have been looking after all things IT (network, hardware, software, cctv, wifi) in a secondary school near Limerick for the past 20 years - back in 1996 there were 3 just computers linked by coaxial 10Base2 and a 56k dialup modem. The school has come a long way - there are now nearly 100 workstations, 200+ wireless clients, multiple comms rooms and several km of cabling. However the network evolved in an ad-hoc piecemeal fashion - now it is time to rationalise the infrastructure and redesign adopting best practice - of course without any disruption to the users!

Hello, I'm a secoundary school teacher with a degree in Computer Science. At school, i'm the ICT coordinator and as o, i am responsible for all the network of our school. We have a total of 7 school from kindergarden to secoundary level. They are all connected together using VLAN to separate and control traffic. Each school has their own servers, routers and switchs. The network relies on 802.1x technology to authenticate clients. It is a very hard managing activity and we use virtualization to implement all the servers we have.
Beside that, i'm also a regular teacher!

Mixing the two roles of a teacher and the infrastructure manager is really challenging and requires a lot of extra time.

Hello, I am a technology teacher and at the same time I am managing the school IT infrastructure. It took me one year to know how the network was really, and there are zones in shadow still, because there are RJ45 jacks that I am not sure where they come from because they are not labelled and I can't follow the wires. In other parts, the network is labelled and with patch panel, and it's very helpful
I have three hours a week to perform this task (the rest I am teaching) and more than 450 computers so time is completely insufficient to do it properly.
In theory, my role should be help my colleagues to use ICT in their lessons, but the best way (and the only at the beginning) is to make sure the ICT is working.

Our network was implemented many years ago in several times. It’s only my 4th. year in the school and now I begin to understand our network. We have a very complex network, servers, routers, patch panels and switches but not completely labeled. Last years, we worked hard documenting all the network and labeling it.

Nowadays we increase our system with a lot of mobile devices: about 60 ipads, 30 chromebooks this year and, in the secondary school, we have a lot of personal computers, mobiles, tablets … with wifi necessities from teachers and students. Every day increase the necessity to work with mobile systems and it’s easier allow that use their personal device.

But, it’s very difficult and hard, have secure and efficient and productive systems.

I work in a VET school in San Sebastian, in the Basque Country. It is a big school, we are around 140 teachers and 1500 students. We have more or less 700 computers for students and 200 for teachers and administration services. 700 of them are laptops. We have 15 switches and around WiFi hi-capacity antennas, so a complex infraestructure.

I am the ICT coordinator but there is another person to manage the infrastructure and we are working together. I have been for some years teaching subjects related to mechanics and working ass ICT coordinator in the schools, offering support to the staff of the school in order to digitalize different processes, promoting the use of digital tools in learning processes and offering training to teachers. It’s not easy to share two roles, in my case I’m lucky and this year I have all my time to work in ICT coordination.

We have started developing and registering managing policies and one of the goals we have is to document our network, we have not right now, so we have big problem when the infrastructure manager is ill.

All cables are labled and connected to a patchpanel. Patchpanel and switches are mounted in a locked cabinet.

Many thanks to Eleni for her video. I am not a teacher but a full-time ICT technician employed in an institute of 8 primary schools and 2 intermediate schools. Each school has a lab with 10 or 12 PC clients (24 for the intermediates), a network switch, an internet modem-router and a server that does: DNS, DHCP, Firewall, Proxy with web content filtering, file sharing and domain controller (yes, we started pretty much complicated!).
The network physical infrastructures differ a lot, some recent buildings have been cabled OK, but others are quite "made up" in economy, with no patch panels and messy labelling, so we decided to use WiFi instead.

The school I work at is quite big.
There are about 500 students aged 3-11. I teach English and Natural Science (in English) in Year 5. I'm also the ICT coordinator.
There are interactive whiteboards and projectors in all my classrooms, a laptop computer for teacher’s use and netbooks (55) for the pupils. We don’t have tablets yet.
There is also two computer labs with about 13 PCs each where we can take students during lessons, but we usually use the netbooks so the computer lab can be used for younger students. Unfortunately our Internet connection is very weak, so even the best designed lesson can end up in a disaster. This year my aim is to improve our local network infraestructure.

I am not the administrator of the network, as my background is in language teaching, not IT. We have a computer and a projector in all classrooms and a laptop trolley for laboratory activities. We now have a better wi-fi connection thanks to EU funds and this is encouraging the use of new technologies a lot. I do also have to teach an manage the IT in our school. But we're a team of three persons to do it, so we could split the different jobs. This is for sure a really helpful point. But since I'm the responsible there are always a lot of little tasks which I'm facing. So it's sometimes hard to separate the IT from my daily business of teaching. I started to set up some defined time windows during the week, in which I'm working for the IT. For this our ticketsystem is very helpful. So we can also quickly assign the problem to the responsible coordinator.
Our infrastructure is right now very good, since we moved for this schoolyear into a new building. We got different groups patched, all cables and sockets labeled and also do use the star method.
I'm teaching Math, Science, Computer Science and History courses. In these subjects I think my role as coordinator is very helpful for me. Because I know all the possibilities we have in our school and can use them right in my courses. Also is it helpful if there's somewhere a problem during the course with ICT.
The only negative aspect is as I wrote earlier, that it can be hard to manage the time for doing both, teaching and managing the ICT.

Hello! I am an ICT teacher in a secondary school in Belgrade the capital city of Serbia.
At my school we have two computers classrooms with 36 PC (my classrooms), every other classroom has a PC or laptop + LCD projector, WIFI (access points- but connection is very slow) an LAN connections in every classroom.
All cables are labled and connected to a patch panel. Patch panel and switches are mounted in a locked cabinet in our one classroom.
In computers classrooms have a interactive whiteboard, for interactive lessons.
IT infrastructure in my classrooms is managed by a very good technician who solves many problems or sometimes IT colleagues in my school solves problems .
I don’t have technical background about networks and there for sometimes hard for me to understand . I learned a lot about networks, but there is still a lot to learn so I hope this MOOC will help me.

At the first school we have LAN with a patch panel, a switch and a router exactly as the video, although not all the cables are labelled. At ht e other school there is no lab at all, just 13 laptops and WiFi network. I hope this course will teach me IT infrastructure and manage to create or improve the school labs indrastructure.
I forgot to mention that some times occupation with the infrastructure of a lab drives me away from my purpose that is teaching pupils...

Like most here I'm a full time teacher that also has the responsibility of being the ICT coordinator. I teach Technical Graphics and woodwork. Mixing the roles is fun at times.....trying to troubleshoot issues with devices and networking to support colleagues who are having difficulty, while teaching a class simultaneously is one of the biggest problems. Knowing that they probably need the ICT for their class, I try to have it back running asap, but that sometimes means devoting my attention to that instead of my class.
We are lucky to have had an extension put in about 10 years ago, and at that time the whole school was wires for a lan, all returned to two patch panels. Almost all sockets and panel points were labelled. Currently I'm in the process of mapping the network as I don't have a plan of the current setup. Which patch point runs to what room and what is connected to that. This can be frustrating when diagnosing a network issue for a specific room. Finding the correct cable in that birds nest I call the comms cabinet.

Fáilte. We have a modem, router, 2 switches and a labelled patch panel in our school. Which is great. There are not enough network sockets though. We have 4 wireless access points and this gives good coverage. Our Router is managed by the schools broadband in Ireland. It gives out the ip addresses. We don't have a server. Between all we might have 60 devices on the network (desktops, laptops, iPads, printers & phones). Broadband speed was recently updated. Speed is fine for this level of use - 30-40 megs. It was almost unusable before at <5megs.

This does seem old-fashioned already.
For us, computer labs/rooms are out, wireless devices, ex laptops, tablets and smartphpnes, in the classroom itself are in.
No power cables, no ethernet cables.
OK the wifi network must cover the classrooms and work! We have just upgraded to 1Gbit/s wifi - makes a difference!
99% of teachers know nothing about IT. The students are easy in comparison!

My school's quite big with lots of computers. We have more than 80 of them, they're spread all over the building in 6 labs and other classes and offices. That means we have a complicated topology with more switches (maybe 8?). I'm not sure because there're two of us who are responsible for keeping things working and we both have our own parts of the net we're responsible for. We haven't got patch panels. Since some parts of our network were built by external companies without any labeling, it was really hard to put things right and label the cables afterwards.

The larger network comprises of a computer lab, all the classroom laptops and the admin PCs which amounts to 50 machines in total.The smaller network comprises of a computer lab and and 4 teacher laptops used to operate cnc machines.We have also fitted the building with wifi in the last 2 years. Hi all, I've teaching a full timetable of History and English. Although I'm in a school of over 700 students and 50+ staff we have no official or designated ICT coordinator. The work and responsibility is mainly taken on by the deputy principal and myself. The ICT infrastructure has been added bit by bit but to a large degree without great planning due to inadequate funding. We have a fairly robust wired network fed with 100mb broadband that is sufficient for our current needs. We are hoping to invest future funding in a wireless network to expand the opportunities for students to make the most of their education. Our cabling is labeled and we have a patch panel or 3!

Hi all, I am a Business Studies teacher and an ICT coordinator in a large secondary school in Dublin. We have 2 LANs, 1 for staff and 1 for students, which have evolved on an adhoc basis over time. Both of these networks need to be mapped and labelled properly at this stage. We have a number of patch panels and switches and a connection to the 100MB School Broadband network. 2 years ago we had an enterprise level wifi network installed which covers all 60 classrooms and other areas of the school. We have 1 computer lab, a laptop trolley and an iPad Trolley as well as a teacher's computer in each classroom. It total there are around 250 devices connecting to the network and this is number is growing all the time. I look after basic network and equipment troubleshooting when I have time between classes and I call on an IT support company for more complex issues.

I´m not an expert in ICT at all, but I´m part of the ICT Dinamization team of my school because I´m one of the fewer teachers there who can manage little common problems with the computers. But, I must recognize, I get completely lost when a real problem occurs.

The lab in my school contains 23 computers. 10of them are old desktop and 13 are laptops.
The difficulty is that the lab is used in the context of various lessons! And of course this is very good, but at the end of the week the half of the computers do not work! Which means I do need hours and hours to "overcome" the lab in good health! There is no technician at school and the 3 hours time for the lab during the week is something that the current year is cancelled!
Which means that ICT teacher we do have a multitasking role:

as teachers to our students
as mentors and supporters to our colleagues
as technicians

In my main job, I don't teach. My role is solely managing the IT infrastructure and IT Services support team and budget.

We have multiple buildings and floors, with 100% wired coverage and about 80% wireless coverage; so yes our cabling is labelled and our LANs have multiple patch panels and cabinets.

On the plus side, my practical work in my main job (IT Support) helps with my teaching in my second job.

I'm a teacher (Maths and Computer Science) and ICT coordinator in primary school. Managing IT infrastructure is very challenging. In computer lab there are 17 computers. Every other classrom in the school has a computer. There are cca 50 computers connected to three patch panels. Our school is also covered with WiFi. We have tablets and laptopts that students can use in the classrooms.

As far as I know, we have 2 routers at school - on the 1st floor and the 2nd floor, laptops for each teacher, projectors and screens in every classroom, and there are smart boards in 4 classrooms.

Actualy, part of the installation was not labeled a couple of years ago and it was a nightmare to tag each cable to know where is everyting connectes. I am teaching, being part of the ICT team, and am also the headmaster of my school, so you can imagine that I have tons of things to care and to do (I have more than two or three roles ;-)).
I dont teach any subject cause I am dedicated to pupils with special needs (something that has a lot to do with apps and digital devices).
Our IT infraestructure is complex because the school has four different buildings, and the connection between them is not easy. So we are now trying to improve several aspects. For example, now not all the cabling is labelled (neither the hardware), and we have other challenges with the network and the use of ICT in the classroom. I hope this course help us showing the right way to make it.

Our LAN has a patch panel. We have replaced our Computer Suite with mobile laptop and iPad trolleys which come to the children in their own classroom on timetabled schedule each week. Hi everyone! I am an English teacher and for the moment I am not managing the school IT infrastructure. I don´t know much about the topic but I am widely open to learn, so after the course, in the near future I´d love to give a hand to the person in charge. There is an external company responsible for the ICT in our school. It´s sad to say though, that what they do is so poor that the network does not work properly most of the time.
As far as I know, there´s no cable labelling but I´ll have to check it out first. The LAN has a patch panel, even more: a patch room where I have just been once because it´s locked.
Since I am teaching English, I see it very challenging to mix it with the ICT. New technologies are really appealing for students and provide the class with great resources and a great pedagogical value. Plus, I think it is essential for us teachers to know how to make things better in the educational arena. Even if for me the ICT is still an unknown world, I´m sure it´ll become a daunting challenge.

I am the deputy principal, the ICT CoOrdinator and also teach a young class of infants in a Primary School of approx. 180 pupils in the west of Ireland. We have recently upgraded to 28 mbps which is a relief and our comms cabinet is bursting at the seams but at least has all connections numbered, although I am not convinced that it is accurate! We are lucky to have the services of a technician on contract who comes in to fix the more serious problems, while I try to troubleshoot (mostly ask google) the smaller ones. Time is pressure to get all this done is difficult and I would prefer to have more time to concentrate on leading ways of integrating tech into the teaching and learning in classes rather than juggle the techy questions! Still though, I love a challenge!

I'm a CS teacher of an Italian school; in every computer laboratory there is a technician that is responsible of the lab and his local organization. So, theoretically I should ignore every detail and give only a generic Alert when something don't run. But it is not possible because I'm too curious, so I feel involved every time there is a problem. Our institute is splitted in two buildings having three labs each with 28 PCs and Ethernet socket in each classroom. The cabling is structured and made by professionals. All second and third classroom have a IWB linked to Internet and in every space of school (inside and outside the classrooms) there is a WiFi (2.5 and 5 MHz) controlled by a hot-spot. Only teachers are authorized. I don't agree: I think that every student must be free to use the Net even if through an authentication procedure of his device.
For this and many other problems I am here attending this course and I'm looking forward to exchange our opinions.

Hello, my name is Liberato Mazzotta. I am italian and I work as a teacher in middle school. My subject is Math & Science. In my school I represent the figure of "Animatore Digitale"; this role was introduced by italian law about one year ago and it can be translated somehow as "Digital Animator". The person who is "Animatore Digitale" has the aim to introduce digital innovation in the school where he is, involving families and the social contest. So, as digital animator, I've a lot of things to do, among which also the management of 2 labs of 30 device, 10 IWB (full kit) and other 10 pc distribuited in the school. It's a hard work considering the fact that i have my teaching activity... In my school all computer, many printers and other devices are connected via a wired infrastructure. There are 4 network cabinets containing switches (24 or 48 ports), and patch panel: all ports are labelled, so I can easily manage possible troubleshooting. The two labs are managed as a group and each computer has its own shared resources directory. I use the "ITALC" software, to manage students while working, helping and checking them from the teacher PC. I can't complain after all; my only problem is that our Internet connection is not so fast as it should be. We are speaking of 2Mbps...
At the moment, this is my challenge.

Hello to everyone. I teach IT and I, also, am an ICT coordinator of the school. I have studied Computer Science at the Alexander Technological University of Thessaloniki. I have worked as a computer engineer for the first three years, before deciding to change my profession and become an IT teacher. For the last 7 years I teach Computer Science in a Vocational High School. We have 3 labs with computers, all of which have connection to the Internet. The software we use is Open Software.

I teach English language in a secondary school in Catania and I help both my colleagues in using technology ad students to study in an innovative and creative way. I am not responsible for IT infrastructure in my school. We have a very good WIFI connection and LAN so sudents can work with their tablets and teachers can use school LIMs.

Hi i am an IT administrator at an Austrian school. We are a rather big school with about 800 students and 80 teachers. We have around 120 desktop machines and of course many more student devices that also want to use Wifi.
In the beginning (>10 yeasrs ago) we used to wire up our LAN on our own, most of it was renewed.

I'm a primary teacher in a 600+ pupil school just outside Dublin. We have network points in all classrooms going back to a patch panel in our comms room. All points and panels are labelled. We are currently implementing a dedicated computer room, so some of the wiring ideas will be useful.

I'm a technology teacher in a high school. I'm not the responsible of the school network. I enroll this course, to know more about the think and to be able to help my colleague who share the task with the teaching. Our network is very complex and big, with different buildings and different layers for different user privileges. Our land is labeled as you told us, and connected by panels. I found it crucial for a good management.

Our school has only one computer laband several computers for administrative work,now mostly laptops. We also have a computer and IWB in almost every classroom thus encouraging technology based lessons. We are fortunate enough as a Technical Vocational High School to be situated next to the School Labs Center which handles all the lab work and lessons not only for Informatics but for other disciplines as well. As such we have a wide range of well educated colleagues to rely on.

I am a computer science teacher in a Greek high school. We have the same network insfastructure with Elena's school. Our provider (Greek School Network), provide Internet access by Star Implementation topology that begins from my school from computer lamb class. At this, there is the router, the switch and the patch that connect all the computers of our school with the internet.
My computer class has 12 computers and every class (totally 15) has 1 computer.

I teach art in a middle school only by five years. In my school I'm a "Animatore Digitale" as many of italian teacher attended this course. Theorically my task not include solve technologic problem. Altought I'm the only one (I'm an architect and my fist work involved the use of technologies), at moment, who has got enough knowledge to solve everyday little issues related to PCs, IWB etc.
At moment first problem in my school is wi-fi not strong enough (we have not fiber link) and provided only in computer lab and in meeting room. We have Interactive White Board only in some classrooms and to connect them we use our phone as hot-spot.
The three school complexes have a network infrastructure modeled by patch panel and access point. In two computer lab we have a lan connection.
This situation is changing: every school complex will be reached by fiber link and other classes will have the IWB.

I am an ICT coordinator in my school. I am an educated teachers and my work is about helping teachers and students to use ICT in their work. My task is not to solve technologic problem such as the infrastructor of the computer system (we have a department for that) but it helps me out to now as much as i can about it because on daily bases I am in the building helping people out about technologic problems. Also as an adviser for the school and the teachers in is good to understand and speak the language of ICT. In my school we have 2 computer rooms (25 computer each), all teachers have their own laptops and we have few extra computers for special education. We also have about 100 tablets for students to use. We have lan network and a wi-fi that is beeing worked on in order to make it better and faster.

I teach in a school with a good ICT infrastructure. We use a system called VMware where we use a central server to manage every user account. All updates to software can be done centrally.
We were very lucky as we used the opportunity of an extension to our school to update our ICT system. We had a management who trusted in the suggestions made by staff and we had staff who gave up a huge amount of their free time time to research, plan and install our system.
We now have a student friendly ICT curriculum in place for 13 to 16 year olds. Our long term plan is to teach students about virtualization using cloud based servers.
I hope that this course will help with the planning of the next phase of ICT development in our school.

I'm a teacher of Nature Science for 5th classes. I'm not an ICT coordinator but I'm very keen to learn how to improve using ICT in my school. I myself love to use ICT during my lessons because it makes lessons more innovative and interactive. In my school there are computers in all classrooms and we have also one bigger ICT room with 15 computers, but there are only 2 interactive white-boards in other classrooms (total 25 classrooms) and 1 very simple Mimio interactive board in Science room. Our wifi isn't strong so all students can't use it in classrooms.

I am ICT coordinator in my school, that spans from preschool to lower secondary.
Our LAN has been rebuilt this year, thanks to EU funding, and now it has a much simpler organization than before. Still, there are two separate networks, one for the offices and one for the students and teachers.
I also teach Math and Science in lower secondary school. Mixing the two roles can be challenging because there's always something that doesn't work while I'm teaching! I spend a lot of my free hours dealing with paper jams and lost passwords :-)

I had no experience and had to learn quickly and from scratch, that's why I am really interested in getting proper and ordered information. I am the ICT co-ordinator in my school but first and foremost a full time teacher!
The demands but on me to maintain our network are many but you learn to cope and do what you can when you can.
I do have the help of a technician who visits once a week to fix any issues I can't do or haven't had time to deal with.
We need to plan for the future now- that's our main goal.
Luckily we have a fully labelled LAN network with many switches and patch panels. Problems only really occur when a switch goes down and needs to be replaced.

It is first time I'm involved with school ICT, mainly by trying to help solving minor issues in day-by-day work and to support the colleague who's in charge for the Animatore Digitale role. The main challenges I have to face are connected to the culture of a Gymnasium. People, both students and teachers are afraid of using ICT because they don't really know how to do it. I was an ICT teacher for a couple of years and adminstrated different ICT lab. I managed these functions at same time when I was teaching.
Nowardays I let it to other teacher for several reasons. ( It's good we all do some pratice - this is the best course for everyone, and makes that we can share and build in a better way the future of our school).
Our cabling is labelled, we have LAN and a patch panel. I teach Religion and my interest for new tecnologies is most of all round and about digital citzenship.

yes I'm teaching while looking after all aspects of IT. We have a patch panel but cables are not labelled. I teach Junior Infants (4-5 year olds) and the challenge is finding time to fix problems as well as finding the solutions to problems.
