Examples of Intellectual Disabilities:
- Fragile X Syndrome: Genetic, affects development, affects behavior and ability to learn.
- Down Syndrome: cognitive and physical symptoms, extra copy or part of a copy of chromosome 21.
- Autism: Affects social interactions, communications and how a person learns.

1907: Indiana becomes first state to pass involuntary sterilzation laws to prevent those with ID from having children in state institutions.

1971: Court case in Pennsylvania supports the right of all children with ID to have a public education.

1990: Americans with Disabilities act is passed.

- In 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) replaced the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), which requires students with disabilities to be assessed with students who do not have those disabilities.
- COVID has created a lower life expectancy for those with Intellectual Disabilities, who already have a 20 year less life expectancy that hte general population.

One is The Arc, a company that advocates, provides resources and helps place those with intellectual disabilities in homes.
