One of the reason of the revolution, was the inequality of the 3 estate.
The Nobles and and the Church were the tops of the 3 estates and the Peasant were at the bottom, The Nobles had almost control over the Peasants. The unfair tax system forced many poor Peasants to pay high taxes to support The Nobles and The Church, and in the The Church and Nobles didn't have to pay taxes at all. The Peasants would have no money for food because of taxes. The king was a corrupt leader and weak, he spend so much money on wars, caused a huge debt for france, he had absolute power. The rise of Enlightenment ideas also gave light to the revolution, they help Peasants realized, that they had rights, that even the king cant take away.

The Estates General were all the representatives of the three estates or French classes, like the Church, Nobles, Peasants. The issue was king louis XVI wanted to address the issue of taxes, and wanted support on making the taxes higher. to help pay off the serious debt of spending so much money on wars, even though it wouldn't help at all, even after making taxes higher most money does not go to help pay debt, it goes to the nobles who use it for selfish reasons and church who doesn't pay taxes at all, the Estates meetings were pointless and just help the revolution to fire up.
