Ahmad and his friends were excited to show their new classmate, Adam, the beauty of Jordan. Adam was from Australia and had arrived at the Zarqa school as an exchange student. We will imagine their dialogue as they planned a trip to Ajloun, but first, let’s agree on some dialogue rules before we begin.
● Use quotation marks before and after the speaker’s exact words.
Tala admitted, “I ate the last piece of candy.”
● Use a comma to separate the speaker from the quote.
Faris stated, “I love my new puppy.”
● When a dialogue ends with a period, question mark, or exclamation point, put these inside the quotation marks.
“Can we have spaghetti for dinner?” Al-Anoud asked.
● Start a new paragraph when switching speakers.

Ammar was sitting quietly on his desk staring at the design project that his Math teacher
asked them to complete. He was sad because he wanted to paint the shapes with his favourite colour, green, but there was not any green! At that moment his grandma walked into his room and saw him looking sad and asked:
“Ammar, what’s wrong?”
“I ran out of the colour green and it’s too late to buy new paint!” said Ammar.
“Let me tell you a short story that might help you think differently about your problem, Ammar.” Grandma said excitedly. “A hundred years ago, somewhere in Italy, there lived a couple who had a son, named Anthony. They borrowed money from a rich man and could not repay the debt.

The rich man was a very stingy man and wanted a servant to help him, but he did not want to waste money paying someone’s
salary. So, he decided to go to the couple’s house and trade the amount of money they owned for their son’s work. The rich man
went to the couple and demanded that their son, Anthony, work for him for free. He said he would come back the next day to
take Anthony away or else they should have the money ready. Anthony heard this and was very upset. The next day, the rich man
headed back to the couple’s house to take Anthony. When he arrived at the house, he heard Anthony refusing to accept the deal
that was offered. Anthony was ambitious and wanted to go to university. He did not want to waste time working for free. The
rich man then offered Anthony another deal. He told Anthony that he would have to pick a pebble from a bag, with two pebbles
inside. If he picked the black one, the debt would not be forgotten, and Anthony should work for him for free. If Anthony picked
the white pebble, the debt would be forgotten, and he would not need to work for the rich man for free. The rich man then bent down to pick two pebbles.

While picking up the pebbles, Anthony noticed that the rich man picked two black pebbles and put them in the bag. He then
asked Anthony to pick a pebble from the bag. Anthony reached out and picked a pebble from the bag and before anyone could see what he had picked, he dropped the pebble on the ground with the other pebbles and said to the rich man: “Oh, it slipped from my hand! Don’t worry...if you look into the bag to see which pebble is left, you
would be able to tell which one I picked.” The rich man was sure that the pebble in the bag was obviously black. And because he didn’t want to be seen as a cheater, he
had to play along as if the pebble that Anthony dropped was white. So, the money lender was forced to forget about the debt.”

With that ending, Grandma told Ammar: “Remember do not limit yourself to only the options that you think you have. Sometimes you have to think out of the
box.” “Thanks, Grandma,” said Ammar, “Instead of thinking about the unavailable colour, I should start mixing blue and yellow to create the green colour!”“That’s my boy!” Grandma said with a smile.
