On the other hand La Rapet isn't a good person because all she could think about was how much time and money she was losing. Sure, Honore thought the same but, he got the okay from his own mother. I think that the sacrifices made for the sake of love (or happiness in other words) "buy" it instead.
 I think that although money is one of the many sacrifices Federigo and Monna make for each other, it's more of an underlying theme than the sacrifices of what is more precious to them.

Neither Federigo or Monna seem to care much about money and more so about the acts of love they do for each other.

Throughout the work, it seems that Monna and Federigo both trade sacrifices for each other as they deem the other worth more, such as Federigo sacrificing his falcon for a simple meal, or Monna sacrificing (although contrary to the subject of this post) her wealth, stating that she would rather have "a man who needs money, than money that needs a man".

"in order to win her love" (1). Monna was using Federigos money to buy herself happiness. Although near the end of the story it did seem like Monna cared for Federigo unlike in the beginning where it states she didn't care about him.

The Doctor at the beginning of the story was concerned and confused on why Honore was leaving his sickly mother alone when in reality he just didn't grasp the concept that life will resume even when a loved one has passed. I'm certain Honore would stay with his mother if he wasn't struggling with poverty, but because he had to continue his daily work, his actions make him seem like a bad guy.
La Rapet on the other hand also struggles with poverty but unlike Honore, her actions make her a bad person.

Honore is a peasant, when confronted between choosing to stay with his mother and miss his harvest or harvesting the wheat, with the approval of his Mother chose the wheat, the Docter refuted to it (paragraph 3). But, his values are different because he does not share the same struggles they do. La Rapet though is a miserable old rear end, why? she killed a person only to make sure she did not lose profit, she may be a peasant but it isn't worth killing a person. She loses a franc or goes with no profit nor loss, she can make it back the next week watching another elder die. (paragraph 50). -tw

They are both poor so have to work constantly. Honore has to get his wheat instead of staying with his mother, he needs the money. La Rapet has been working for many years for little pay and is upset that she might not get paid. In the end when Monna's son dies and decides to get married, she marries Federigo for his act of generosity and not because of his wealth which he no longer had after wasting it trying to get her attention while she was married. It states in the text, "My brothers, I am well aware of what you say, but I would rather have a man who needs money than money that needs a man." (24). It makes me think if she killed the dying woman because of the agreement or she killed more dying people for more money.
