I am the first person in my family to hold a degree. My mother only graduated high school and my dad didn't even complete middle school. This achievement has motivated me and inspired me to go further than they ever did. Having my associate's degree has allowed me to surpass their academic accomplishments. I continue to move forward with the hope of achieving more.

Promoted to Manager

After working at my current job for a few months, I was asked if I would be interested in management. I accepted the position and went through all of the training to work the position. It was a big responsibility and took me outside of my comfort zone, but I am appreciative of the opportunity, and I believe it helped me grow into a more confident and knowledgeable person.

Passing Audit

Recently, at work, we were given an audit by higher management. They came in and judged us on every aspect of our store. I was the manager on duty, so it was ultimately my leadership that was being evaluated. We received one of the best reviews in the company and were given high praise for our work. I was specifically given props for my performance. This was really encouraging for me.

Compassion

I am a people person. I love other people, and having been through difficult times, I am empathetic to whatever they might be going through. Though my leadership position does put me in a difficult position where I have to call people out for their behavior, I try really hard to give people compassion. Every person deserves a chance to be treated empathetically.

Enthusiasm

The world is not always a positive place. Many bad things happen to good people every day. I have been through a lot, but the only thing that has gotten me through it has been relentless positivity. I believe in realistic enthusiasm. I recognize that some things are bad, but I remain enthusiastically hopeful that they will turn around. I think enthusiasm opens doors for you, and it uplifts and encourages not only you but those around you.

Hard Work

I was raised with a strong belief in hard work. The phrase, "If not you, who? If not now, when?" was repeated time and time again throughout my childhood. I feel that this belief has made me the woman I am today. I find work ethic paramount in my professional, academic, and personal life. I think you should take pride in your work and you should never leave for someone else what you could have easily done yourself.

Learning

Education is one of the most important things in the world to me. I believe that life is only improved if we continue to devote ourselves to learning. I think that we have to stay open to learning new things and have to accept that we do not know everything. Having this approach has brought me further than I ever would've gotten without it. It is a cornerstone of my values.

World

One way that I believe I can make a small impact on the world is by devoting myself to a career where I help with students' mental health. I hope to get a degree in School Psychology and use it to work in the school system directly helping students who are struggling.

Family

I can give more of my time to my family. I am very close with my sister and spend a lot of time with her, but I often feel like I neglect some of my other family members. I can improve by investing in and supporting their everyday activities.

In an ideal world, I would be more involved at work. Specifically with team appreciation. I think that we lack that at my store, and I could do a much better job of appreciating each employee and making their work experience better. I work full time, and I should make more of an effort to use those hours to make it a better place.

Friends

One way I could be more giving in my friendships is by checking in on them more. I would like to be better at texting my friends and giving them encouragement throughout their weeks. I do a good job of making plans with friends, but I would like to be better at texting them even when I don't see them.

The Spring 2025 semester was one of the hardest I have faced in my academic career. Not only did I work full time and care for my elderly grandmother, but I also had a 15 credit hour courseload. I am incredibly proud of maintaining success at work and ultimately passing each of those classes with a B or better.
