Describe a person you know who enjoys dressing well

I'd love to tell you about my best friend, Ken. He was born in Japan but grew up in Viet Nam, who's the same age as me and currently a student; we’ve actually been childhood friends for ages. Even from a young age, he’s always been incredibly fashion-conscious, which is quite remarkable for someone his age.

I guess the main reason he loves dressing well actually stems from a habit he picked up when he was very young, as his parents always made sure he had really nice clothes. As he grew up, he naturally just kept that habit, but it also morphed into this desire to be a polite and well-groomed man, which I guess makes others feel good and comfortable when they’re around him. His choices in clothes really vary between occasions, which is something I admire about him. For example, when he’s going out with friends, he often adopts a hip-hop vibe, so he might put together an outfit with baggy trousers with punk details, and a plain white crop top, all topped off with a cool leather jacket. But then, if he’s participating in more formal events, he’ll absolutely come out in an impeccable tuxedo, a meticulously tailored suit, and spotless black leather shoes, often finishing off the look with a dash of perfume. All in all,, I still look up to him for his sartorial habits; he really sets a good example for my own fashion choices, and I often take a leaf out of his book.

Part 3: Fashion and Learning

1. Do you think online shopping will replace in-store shopping in the future? Why?

I guess while some people still gravitate towards real-life stores for that tangible experience, I absolutely believe that online shopping is poised to supersede every other type of store in the future. The unparalleled convenience it offers is the main driver, as you can literally sit idly at home and browse through hundreds of different products. What's more, you can effortlessly check prices of various items from multiple retailers, which makes comparison shopping incredibly straightforward.

2. Are you a person who likes to follow fashion?

I'm sure I am, 100%! I often joke around that I'm a bit of a "fashion slave" because scarcely a week goes by without me picking up new fashion items, mostly online, actually. I'm a particularly ardent fan of baggy jeans, especially those with unique dragon or aesthetic details printed or sewn on, as they really boost my confidence and make me feel good.

3. Are older people as fashionable as young people? Why?

I'm not entirely sure, to be honest, but as I look at my own social circles, most Vietnamese elders don't actually care much about fashion in the same way young people do. They generally focus on simply having practical things to wear and don't really bother with whether these items are particularly fashionable or not. On the other hand, younger generations tend to be more discerning and invest more time and effort into their personal style.

4. Are women more fashionable than men? Why?

I'd say that fashionability is actually quite equal, and it depends much more on individuals, regardless of their gender. There's certainly a prevalent stereotype that women often buy more clothes than men, so they're often perceived as more fashionable; however, that doesn't really hold true for all cases. For instance, I myself take great pride in my sartorial choices, and I put a lot of effort into looking good, so I suppose I break down that stereotype a bit.

This topic reminds me of my birthday a couple of years ago when my parents gave me a really special present, which was an acoustic guitar. Actually, I used to have a soft spot for string instruments and performing all my favorite songs. But to be honest, I was under great pressures from studying, as much as I was on a shoestring budget, so I didn't have a chance to buy one.

I did mention to my whole family during a dinner before my birthday that I was raring to adopt playing guitar as a hobby, but they just laughed it off and poking fun at me with my girly, delicate fingers. I didn't mind it actually because that’s how we family often joke with each other.

But then on my birthday, my father surprised me with a huge cardboard box. What appeared right in front of my eyes after opening it was a nice-looking, reddish brown hued, wooden guitar. I was so amazed, like my heart beating out of my chest, and relished that my dream finally came true. My parents also admitted that they were quite impressed by my enthusiasm and I deserved something for all the educational efforts I poured into.

Until now, I am still using it every single day. Although practicing with the guitar continues to be a pain in the neck to me, I have never lost that kind of energy ever since. Looking back, I feel grateful to my parents more, and that moment really shows the special love of my family for me.

How should bosses reward employees?

=> It really depends on the situation and the company culture. Sometimes a bonus or raise makes the most sense, but other times, something simple like public recognition or extra time off can be just as motivating. I’ve seen people get more excited about a heartfelt thank-you than a small cash bonus. The key is knowing what your employees actually value and it’s not always money.

What kinds of gifts do young people like to receive as rewards?

=> Younger people often prefer something they can enjoy right away, like gadgets, gift cards, or experiences. A concert ticket, for example, feels exciting and memorable. That said, it really depends on the person…some might value something more practical. What matters most is that the gift matches their personality or interests; otherwise, it just feels generic.

How should children spend their allowance money?

=> An allowance is a great way to let kids practice managing money. Ideally, they should be allowed to spend some on fun things, like snacks or small toys while learning to save the rest. If they mess up and spend it all too fast, that’s actually a valuable lesson. I remember blowing my entire allowance on candy once… and then regretting it when I couldn’t afford the book I really wanted. That's stuck with me until now.

Why do people like shopping more now than in the past?

=> The way I see it, shopping today has been designed to be more convenient. In the past, shopping was more occasional, as it was time-consuming and strenuous, requiring buyers to travel between places and malls. But now, online shopping has made the process quick, easy, and available 24/7. All you need is a phone and a few taps.

.

1. Do you think online shopping will replace in-store shopping in the future? Why?

I guess while some people still gravitate towards real-life stores for that tangible experience, I absolutely believe that online shopping is bound to supersede every other type of store in the future. The convenience it offers is the main driver, as you can literally sit idly at home and browse through hundreds of different products. Also, you can effortlessly check prices of various items from multiple retailers, which makes comparison shopping incredibly straightforward.

4. Are women more fashionable than men? Why?

I'd say it is a no, since it is actually quite equal, and depends much more on individuals, regardless of their gender. There's in fact a prevalent stereotype that women often buy more clothes than men, so they're basically perceived as more fashionable; however, I think that I break down that stereotype a bit, as I often put a lot of effort into shopping clothes and looking good. That's why I don't think that women are more fashionable than men.
