This photo of a cabin in the woods represents many of the roles that plants play in our society and the environment. The plants and trees not only help make the air breathable for all life on Earth, but they can be used to create shelter, food, tools, etc. They provide food and shelter for the diverse wildlife. They can help make a peaceful retreat for someone who just needs to get away from everyday life. Plantlife holds this world up; without it animals and humans would not be able to survive.

This video explains photosynthesis very well. It is very informative and understandable. The narrator at Khan Academy writes out the important information in a way that makes it easy to study and understand what he is explaining. He is very good at explaining the more detailed information in a way that won't be overwhelming or confusing.

The Georgia Plume (Elliottia racemosa) is an angiosperm that is endemic only to Georgia. The Georgia Plume has a very limited range and is only found in the coastal plains and Piedmont regions of Georgia. It is a threatened species and can only be found in fewer than 50 locations within the state. Here is a link with more information:
https://www.fs.fed.us/database/feis/plants/tree/ellrac/all.pdf

I believe the biome most in danger of ecological change is the forest biome, specifically the rainforests. Deforestation from human consumption, development, and man-made and natural wildfires pose a huge risk to the rainforests of the world. Rainforests used to cover over 14 percent of the world and now they only cover roughly 6 percent. It's estimated that they are disappearing at a rate of 6000 acres every hour. The massive loss of these forests contributes to climate change, soil erosion, desertification, and many other negative ecological effects. Air quality and animal life is also affected.

Social Stratification had a major impact on the human population. Because not everyone was needed in agriculture anymore, more people were able to go off and enjoy their own endeavors. This led to new jobs, new innovations, new technologies, and new ways of life. Over time a social hierarchy naturally began to form as more people were able to gain what other didn't and new jobs were formed. The impact is still in effect today, as the social hierarchy has grown and evolved with the times all over the world.

The first seed drill was a device invented to make planting seeds faster by dispensing seeds in furrows and then covering them with soil. They were small enough to be pushed by a human through the fields, at first. Later, in 1701, Jethro Tull created a large scale seed drill that was horse drawn. I chose the seed drill because it was one of the most important inventions for agriculture. It had such a huge impact that it changed the way large scale farming was done forever.

Spiriva, or Tiotropium, for the treatment of asthma is one of the most influential plant derived chemicals used in the world today. As many as 334 million people worldwide have asthma, with roughly 25 million living in the United States. Studies have shown that the use of Spiriva instead of, or in combination with, regular long-acting beta agonists (LABAs) and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) has reduced the rate of asthma exacerbations (attacks) in patients by 73% and have reduced the rate of asthma related hospitalizations by 76% (Source cited below). So many people live with asthma worldwide and the addition of Spiriva has helped millions live more comfortably with their symptoms. Here is a link to website about the benefits of the addition of Spiriva to asthma treatment:
https://sparkhealthmd.com/spiriva-respimat-inhalation-spray-reduces-the-rates-of-asthma-exacerbation/731/

This picture of the world dying represents what I feel will happen if we keep going the way we are unchecked; we will completely decimate our planet. People are already divided, the planet is in need of help, and millions of people are already struggling to even get the basic necessities. If we keep going this way, I can only see things getting worse. We would need to make major changes in our ways of life to make a difference and with today's social/political climate, it's (unfortunately) hard to see many coming together to make the necessary changes. (The Covid-19 situation in the US is sadly a good example of this.)
