I have been inspired by a local entrepreneur, Theo, who has created his own business in tourism. The link below takes you to his page. What interested me most was his angle to personalise the tour experience, something that most tourism can't accommodate for in Rovaniemi (in my experience). This personalisation was also reiterated in Gary Reddin's video, only that instead of a product, there were customer experiences.
He also insisted on the importance of knowing people - you never know when you need that one person.

After considering Reddin's video and creating my own product, I came upon this dilemma again: intellectual property. The shared economy is a tricky idea for many in the creative industry because you don't want your product to be exploited without any financial gain to you, the creator. However, I think there is a lot to be gained by Johanna Blakley's idea of 'the free culture' especially in light of The Creative Economy Report of 2010 which states, "another approach is to consider creativity as a measurable social process" (3).

1. What is valuable to your end customer?
My company is actually a product of the digitalisation economy - my customers need the tools to keep up with digitalisation. So I myself must ensure that the company is using the latest and best digital tools available. Keeping up to date with the online world is essential to all parts of the product, service and customer satisfaction. In order to continue to grow, I have to show that the material of the product and service is current. This is the value of my product.
2. How can you deliver value to your customers in the most efficient way possible?
Ensuring that my website is frequently maintained and updated with new tools is a demonstrative way for customers to see how reliable our services/products are. As my company is almost entirely web-based, having a homepage that I, my staff, and my clients can rely on is paramount.
3. How can you develop your key partnerships?
If I were to build the company, then I would definitely need partnerships of student emancipation organisations, most likely NGOs. This could be effectively achieved by setting up new programs in cooperation with groups. This would also ensure the need for my company's products as they would be in use by other organisations, and their clients.
4. How can you make the value creation process more efficient?
Working with clients to create and design online mediated writing tools would be the most effective way, however this would require time, money and resources, so would only be feasible if it were a large project. Doing more broad analysis of the general client needs would be most efficient because then marketing can also be incorporated to find other potential clients.
5. How do we retain our ability to react quickly to changes?
Maintaining up to date materials, tools and applications is key to the success of this company. This also pertains to me and potential employees. We must constantly better our skills and learn about new media to stay ahead of the curve. Chances are if we've heard about it, then our clients' students are already using it! We have to stay with the trend.

So why are we not encouraging this more often in the workplace! I'm astounded I've never stopped to think about this before!!!
"humour and especially a playful attitude and atmosphere seem to promote both work engagement and innovative behaviour" (37)
Humour is known to induce positive endorphins in the brain, which are conducive to positive learning experiences. This is a great point to develop within my products, especially as students will be endeavouring to learn new skills! Also, with my service aspect (consulting with teachers) I could definitely use this tip in helping them to learn better as well!

#lost drive of representative democracy
This one struck me because I see the role of effective media education being part of the emancipatory role of education, and therefore democracy. People actively using their democratic rights of speech and education can be empowered by media education. I feel this goes well with my business proposal for online mediated applications.
#strengthening local presence
the empowerment of smaller communities is completely possible with the digital world. It's no longer required for people to get the services/products they need from bigger cities. My product functions in much the same way, making it available to rural and urban customers alike.
#digital crowd platforms
New ideas are coming from anywhere, which is exciting. If working entirely from the platform of the internet, it would be possible to support these 'idearists' and also support my own business agenda of furthering online mediated applications. I can see the potential for partnership opportunities as well!

I'm really surprised to find so much support for potential entrepreneurs, especially the information available in English. I think this is quite smart, given the number of Finnish speakers in the world is only around 7 million, whereas the potential for English speakers is boundless.
