This monument is quite large because the Holocaust was such a horrible event that killed millions of people. The slabs resemble the architecture of Hitlers regime. I also really liked the waterfall aspects in the memorial, it sets a calming mood that reminds people that the incident is over and New York City is calmer again. Also that this story is based were I grew up connects me kind of with it. The monument is connected to "Klaus Störtebeker" a "Pirat" which robed the In- and Out-coming Ships of the (already then) big Haven of Hamburg. But he was more a kind of "Robin Hood" he robbed the riches and gave it to the poor.
