Television appearances and huge performances filled up the band's schedule (including performances for the Royal Family). "Please Please Me", "From Me to You", "She Loves You", and "I Want to Hold Your Hand" became their first hits in England in 1963. The songs sounded very happy with lots of twangy guitar and lyrics about love and girls. The enthusiastic energy the fans emitted during live performances became known as "Beatlemania". The wave of fame eventually hit America's interest, and the Beatles arrived at the Kennedy airport to appear on the Ed Sullivan show. Their arrival was the first time the Beatles had set foot on American land. The Beatles did not want to go to America until one of their songs was #1 in the U.S first, but went on the show due to their belief that the fame in America was going to be short-term (this appearance later became one of the most famous television performances in history). America proved them wrong as more than 30 of their songs were listed in the top 40 charts, 12 of them being #1.
