Today we still push the limits of science. A very well known advancement we now have in the military is prosthetics. It all started with Egyptians. Their prosthetics were made with fiber. It wasn't so much as function but wholeness.

A big milestone is the Flu vaccine. Its a treatment known to save many lives. We can thank the military for that. The military developed the first approved vaccine in the 1940s. It was used in WWII. In 1938 it was only used for protecting the military against the virus.

The number of amputations were drastically increasing in the Civil War. It gave the U.S. no choice but to enter the field of prosthetics. The “Hanger Limb” was created by James Hanger. It's purpose was to replace a missing limb. It was made with whittled barrel staves. From there it has been altered. Today they are made with plastic, aluminum or composite materials. They are lighter and more for function so not only is it filling in a missing limb but it becomes the new limb, replacing the old rather then just filling in a spot.

Wearable technology medical experts predict will be the next big thing coming up by 2024. Now I know what your thinking, we already have technology like that. Sure we do, take fit-bits for example but medical experts predict that there will be better improved technology that will provide real-time health information that goes more in depth. I don't always agree with modern technology but imagine if the waiting room was phased out? They predict that doctor appointments will be done virtually by the time it's 2024.

It may seem unfortunate but Travis is one of five surviving quadruple amputee servicemen coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Coming back he was sent from hospital to hospital under medically induced coma. Travis was given the chance to have prosthetics. His prosthetics are voice controlled.

Medical care and treatment is a worldwide issue. Without it we would be more prone to infections, viruses, you name it. Without the technology that is provided to us as Americans today is extremely fortunate. We have the ability to recreate the lost or the broken to us that may have seemed impossible in the early 1900s. Treatment is critical to us, it saves lives and nurses us back to life. Not all countries are as fortunate as the U.S., sometimes we might even take it for granted. I only ask, how far can we really take science? Will these advancements cause damage to us in the future or back fire on us?

One thing that not only I but most of the population would like to finally see more progress on finding a cure for cancer. Cancer is so very common now. My grandmère Dù Lac died of brain cancer, Uncle Dicky Dulac died of skin cancer, Grammy died of cancer, okay it's easier if I just say basically all Dulac's and my grandparents on both my moms biological family and adopted family, so I'm basically prone to get cancer. Medical experts are already trying to improve ways to prevent as well as cure cancer. For now there is really nothing we can do about it.
