The Arkan British rule resulted in a divide where many modern Arkanese Buddhist developed hatred against the Rohingya Muslims, explaining much of the violence inflicted upon them.

Forced migration - Because of the discrimination, violence, and genocide, Rohingya Muslims are forced to migrate and flee from their homes to safety.

Asylum - After fleeing their home country, Rohingyas have very few options but to seek asylum for refuge in other countries.

Internally Displaced Persons - Many Rohingya attempt to flee but face further violence and persecution and must remain in Myanmar. In 2017, 144,098 were left internally displaced (UNHCR).

Deportation - Even after successfully migrating away from Myanmar, Rohingya Muslims still face political issues and risk for deportation back to Myanmar. For instance, in India, the Supreme Court allowed for the deportation of Rohingya refugees.

Push Factors - Push factors are negative aspects of a situation that make people want to move to a new area. The counter migration law generally does not apply to the Rohingya Muslims. They are forced to flee their Myanmar to escape violence and persecution, so many try to settle in other countries with better opportunities.

2. The majority of migrants move a short distance.
Law #2 applies to the Rohingya Muslims because most  tend to flee to countries that are surrounding Myanmar or in that region of Asia.

3. Migrants that move longer distances tend to choose urban areas.
This law applies to the Rohingya Muslims since they tend to migrate to displacement camps, which are generally located in urban areas. Most migrants seek out the opportunities in larger cities.

4. Families are less likely to move internationally. 
Due to Myanmar’s forced migration, families are forced to immigrate together internationally. They must flee the dangerous situations together rather than individually. 

5. People who live in urban areas migrate less than people who reside in rural areas. 
This law does not apply to the Rohingya Muslims, as they tend to live in more remote villages rather than in big cities. Their villages are where the Rohingya populations are high, so that is where Myanmar specifically targeted them.
