Teaching and Managing Behavior for Students Enduring Abuse at Home by eva uribe

This project focuses on navigating teaching and providing support to students who have experienced or are currently experiencing a domestic violence/child abuse situation. Children of any age can be subject to this mistreatment, pushing an emphasis of taking a trauma-informed approach to teaching and behavior management. In order to be their most successful versions of themselves, students need to have all basic needs met. Students in crises such as these, lack stability. Children in these situations are commonly diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This can lead to behaviors such as increased anxiety, irritability, self-harm, inability, or decreased ability concentrate.

For many students, their teacher is a central figure in their lives. With day-to-day interaction, students rely on the school environment to fulfill their social and emotional needs. When a child is deprived of this in their home, it can lead to changes in behavior.
