Notes- 

Mike Fuentes is my favorite drummer, the percussion never misses. CWTS is an unflinching examination of toxic relationships and addiction. The brutality of certain songs like A Match Into Water and First Punch makes less intense songs like Tangled in the Great Escape a bit dim in comparison. I really enjoy how Pierce the Veil experiments with polyrhythm, but sometimes the execution isn't great, and the song ends up feeling a bit meandering and unpredictable. As a result, there are some skips on this album, but when Pierce The Veil really swings, they hit.

Not quite as flawless as Flyleaf's self named album, but easily my second favorite, and with an impressive lineup. Lacey Sturm continues to impress with positively angelic vocals. If she found God in Flyleaf, Memento Mori is about her after she's found her faith. A haunting electropunk album that defined an era of my life where I was near-completely isolated. Listening to Crystal Castles summarized the surreality of my surroundings and glamorized them. This album wavers between dreamlike and nightmarish, and it calls to me in a way that can't really be put into words.

Kanye starts out strong with The College Dropout as his first album. It's messy, but it's got a hell of a lot of heart for his first. This album feels almost communal. Local. Some of these songs have hooks so strong it hits you right away (All Falls Down, The New Workout Plan), starting off Kanye's absolutely killer production reputation. The College Dropout isn't the most intelligent nor insightful, and it has way too many interludes... seriously, so many interludes. But it's got shit to say, and it's a jam, and that's enough. It's enough to listen to this album and say, damn, this is really how it was back then.

Let Him Cook. Kanye's second album is looking a lot more polished than his first. He establishes one of his signatures of sampling classic and soul music, reworking it seamlessly into the beat. Though still a lover of his interludes, on this album Kanye channels a lot more of his storytelling skills into the songs themselves. A great example of this is Roses; You can almost see his dying grandmother in her hospital bed, hear her wails in the song.

Notes - 

Perhaps Kanye's most artistically accomplished album. Concise and devastating and moving, all the same. Kanye is generous with his features, pulling some of the greatest artists in the game to solidify this album. The only reason I have it as 9.5/10 and not 10 is more of a personal taste, as not all the songs are as catchy as I'd like (though POWER and Monster are strong exceptions). It's a really gorgeous album.
