In my childhood, I distinctly remember my mother being very cautious about the foods she bought and the ingredients they contained. She was particularly wary of GMOs or genetically modified organisms, and would insist on only buying non-GMO products. This attitude was not unique to her, as many people also prefer non-GMO products. This is because GMO products are said to cause cancer and there isn't enough research yet on the long-term effects of GMO products on human health since people haven't been consuming them for very long. Therefore, no one knows what kind of impact they will have on our bodies in the long run.

Although genetically modified (GM) foods have only been available for a relatively short time, there is currently no evidence to suggest that eating these foods increases the risk of cancer. While it is true that researchers cannot completely rule out the possibility of long-term health effects, they have not observed any increase in cancer cases associated with the introduction of GM foods in the 1990s.

In addition, it is not easy to find articles that claim GMOs cause cancer. I found one article, but it did not provide accurate statistical or evidential support for its claims.

On the other hand, the vast majority of articles state that GMOs do not cause cancer. Scientific research has not found a conclusive link between GMOs and cancer, and many reputable organizations, including the World Health Organization and the American Medical Association, have stated that GMOs are safe for consumption.

A recent study discovered that nearly 9% of articles (47 out of 535) related to GMOs were found to contain false or misleading information. The largest category of misinformation pertained to human health, with articles making claims that GMOs cause cancer or other health issues without any scientific evidence or refutation. This contradicts the overwhelming global consensus that food produced from genetically engineered crops is just as safe as non-genetically engineered crops. Articles containing false information about GMOs and human health were the most popular among readers, with the potential to reach up to 139 million people.
