         <description><![CDATA[<div>The aristocrats dominated Athenian society. As the richest men in town they ran the city's economy. In the 600s BC a group of rebels tried to over throw the aristocrats. Possibly as a result of their failed attempt, however, a man named Draco created a new set of laws for Athens. Theses laws were very harsh. Draco's laws made minor crimes such as loitering punishable by death.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Peisistratus brought peace and prosperity to the city. He began new politics meant to unify the city. After Peisitratus died, his son took over as Tyrant. The aristocrats were unhappy about not having power. Some of the aristocrats convinced other city-states to attack Athens, the Tyrants lost power and the aristocrats were back in charge.</div>]]></description>
