I liked how chapter 3 used the words productive struggle. I think that is a great way to look at mistakes and students thinking independently to work through to finding solutions in their own way.
In chapter 4 I noticed how the book said using the 3 phase lesson format made differentiating instruction much easier because students can find a solution their own way and then share their ideas with the class.

I noticed in chapter 4 that it says that “children are making sense of the mathematics in their way, bringing to the problems only the skills and ideas that they own.” Using the word own made me realize the importance of repetition and maybe going back to things to make sure students have mastered it. I feel that math may have been a struggle for me due to the fact that every year we would build onto the previous years knowledge, but I wasn’t fully “owning” the previous years knowledge.
