Teeth mechanically (physically) break down food.
Salivary glands make saliva, made up of water and salivary amylase, that helps lubricate the food so it can go down the esophagus and starts the chemical breakdown of starch.
The tongue then helps to push the food into the esophagus.
The pharynx works as the passageway of both air and food into the esophagus

The Esophagus

Large Intestine

The first 30cm is called the duodenum the second is the jejunum and the third the ileum
Releases bicarbonate ions to cancel out the acidity of the HCl
Does the majority of the chemical digestion,
The majority of nutriants get obsorbed here
Bile produced by the liver and stored in the gall bladder starts its breakdown of lipids (fat)
Receives pancreatic juice, which is made up of water, NaHCO3, pancreatic amylase, lipase, trypsin and pancreatic nuclease, from the pancreas to aid the digestion of starch, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids
