How did Catherine's accomplishments make others call great?

-Catherine the Great expanded her country. Catherine’s engagements in Poland and against Turkey worked favorably for her, noted Massie. In 1772, Poland was partitioned between Russia, Austria and Prussia, with subsequent partitions occurring in 1793 and 1795. Additionally, in 1774, after Russian troops were in a position to threaten Istanbul, Turkey sued for peace, with Russia gaining territories on the Black Sea coast and the Sea of Azov area.

-She was an empress of Russia who ruled from 1762-1796, the longest reign of any female Russian leader.

-Catherine's rule brought about something of a golden period for female artists. The time that Catherine the Great rose to power, that female artists also rose in Russia. For example, Princess Natalia Ivanovna Kurakina wrote at least 45 songs.

-Her reign was a period of extension of trade and communication. In 1785, Catherine issued the Charter to the Nobility, which freed Russian nobles from compulsory military or state service. They were also to elect a Marshal of the Nobility, who spoke on their behalf to the monarch. Catherine provided an environment where commodities were plentiful, trade expanded and communications developed. Large government spending led to shortage of silver and huge masses of copper coins in the Russian domestic market; making large transactions difficult.

Why do many citizens around the world now and then still see Napoleon as their hero even after all the people he killed? Was it only because of his many great achievements, or is it his charm?

How were his men able to be so loyal to him, and sacrifice so much for him even though he was a selfish, egotistical, military genius who's greed for power drove him to to conquer almost all of Europe? ---> What are some actions that gave Napoleon the name of a selfish, egotistical, military genius?

Facts:

Napoleon's rise to power is one of the great stories of European history. He was born the son of a minor noble, yet in just a few decades he gained control of France and conquered most of Europe, becoming an emperor of the French and the King of Italy! Although Napoleon’s physical appearance is not impressive (he was about 5’6), his charisma, ambition, bravery and intelligence lead him to accomplish many things for the French, and affect our world now. Napoleon inspired bravery and devotion in his men, and its opposite: fear and doubt in his opponents. This made his men and people love and look up to him—even now.

Revolutionized military organization, training and tactics; sponsored the Napoleonic Code; reorganized education; and established the long-lived Concordat with the papacy.

Napoleon also sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States in 1803. Napoleon’s act of selling the Louisianan Territory to the U.S inspired the U.S to buy more territories, for example, the U.S bought Florida from Spain in 1819, after Napoleon died, which shows that Napoleon’s actions have a lasting effect on people, even after he died.

Some accomplishments:

Economic, Religious, and Educational reforms. Napoleon also worked hard to create a unified Europe.

The Code Napoleon-

basis of law in France and a number of other countries, as well as in the state of Louisiana!

Napoleonic Code- Napoleon sponsored the Napoleonic Code. The Napoleonic Code ensured that people would have a chance to gain wealth. Many countries like Great Britain, Russia, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark has based some aspect of their laws on the Napoleonic Code! The Code itself is still in use today in former French colonies such as Quebec and Louisiana.

How did Jackie Robinson influence desegregation between African-Americans that was taking place in America at the time?

After leaving the Army, Jackie Robinson played baseball professionally. At first Jackie Robinson played in the Negro Leagues because at the time there was a lot of segregation. But he was soon drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was the first African - American MLB player. His coach and Robinson both knew that he was going to face a lot of racism but Jackie promised not to fight back when he did. People in the crowds always taunted Jackie and he and his family would even receive threats. Other MLB teams would also taunt Jackie but he stuck to his principles and never lowered himself down to their level. Another example of Jackie sticking to his principles is when he was on a bus and refused to move to the back of the bus because he was African - American. Jackie has transferred two times in the Major Leagues but his teammates, especially the coaches, were loyal to him and he continued to lead by example. Jackie Robinson changed history not only in the MLB but throughout the whole world. On April, 15, 1997 Jackie Robinson's number, 42 was officially retired.

He returned to service for the war of 1812 and became a famous general. after the war he became governor of florida
He was the first president to come from humble beginnings.
He ran for president first in 1824, lost, and then ran again in 1828. the second time he ran he was more negative about his opponents and he portrayed himself as the champion of the common man. He made laws that meant native Americans had to leave their homes and go to other places. When South Carolina didn't follow certain federal laws, Jackson was prepared to use the army and the navy to collect taxes. Eventually, they lowered the taxes and the crisis was averted.
