Both monsters are different in their own ways. Grendel's mother is not as cruel as grendel. Grendel has been killing the danes for 12 years and was just doing it for himself. Also the warriors were afraid of his evil and what he could do to them.Grendel's mother was angry that her son has died, so she had reason to kill.

Question 2: What does Beowulf do after defeating Grendel's evil mother? Beowulf goes and searches for Grendel not knowing he's dead. Beowulf finds Grendel's body leaning against the wall where his mother laid him. Beowulf take one last look and with the sword he used to kill Grendel's mother, and raises it and swings with fore to cut off Grendel's head as his body made one last twitch before being dead forever. This can be found on page 59, starting on line 540. "In his pouch. But Beowulf repaid him for those visits,
Found him lying dead in his corner,
Armless, exactly as that fierce fighter
Had sent him out from Herot, then struck off
His head with a single swift blow. The body
Jerked for the last time, then lay still." This explains what happened after Beowulf defeated the mother of Grendel, and then now having Grendel's mother's head and his head and arm to be victory souvenir.

Hrothgar asks beowulf to battle and kill Grendel's mother, because she took the life of hrothgar closest friend. " The man he most loved of all men on earth ". Stated on the section or paragraph called Grendel's mother, on page 56 between lines 420 - 425. It states that Hrothgar himself sent for Beowulf to hunt down the murderer who killed the one man he loved. Beowulf was the only man, the only person that was capable of killing such a person. No geat could have stopped her. As you can tell Hrothgar needed someone to avenge his friend and no one could do a job as high stakes as this one.

After killing grendel's mother he rejoiced in the sight of her lifeless body, but his job wasn't finished. Beowulf was hunting another "dead" monster for revenge against grendel's last attacks but little did he know the monster he was seeking was already deceased as stated on line 541. With the sword still in his hand he chopped the head off of grendel the same way he did his mother. Beowulf was supposed to kill grendel but he didn't know that he was already dead and to make sure that he was beowulf struck him in the head. So, that's what happend after the battle with grendel's mother and the aftermath of the altercation.

When Beowulf killed Grendel's grandmother it's quite questionable what he did after making that type of crime. He went on to find Grendel's body and decapitated his head. Beowulf states in line 1251, “wise sir do not give grief, it's always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in the mornings.” So to answer the following question, Beowulf killed grendel as well right after murdering his mother.

Grendel’s mother is portrayed more as human than monster in the book because she seeks revenge when her son comes back wounded on both arms. It states in the book that her motive is as human as it is monstrous as she seeks revenge for her defeated son and reclaims his arm, which from her point of view must seem a barbaric trophy. So therefore grenderls mother is portrayed as a human because she shows her feelings in revenge and actions instead of murder and killing
