Decrease in income: due to only one working parent (if any). Can affect how much time and money parents have to spend with their children. 
Less quality time: single parents may find it difficult to spend quality time with their children (due to work and other responsibilities).
Negative feelings: children may feel upset with the situation and blame the parents for relationship problems.

There were 780 thousand single mother families in June 2012, making up the clear majority of one parent families (81%). The single women are usually in their late 30’s. There are many challenges presented whilst growing up with one parent. The parent would have to cope with all household chores and most of the child’s needs, whilst with 2 parents, this load can be shared. Being raised by only one parent would also present some possible troubles. The child could only rely on one person to be in a place at a certain time or just be there to talk to them. In contrast, a child with 2 parents has the option of talking to either if there is a problem or issue present. In relating back to the book, Que is constantly worried about the welfare of Hang. She is the most important person in her life, so she must care for her. As she is a single mother, she must too carry the responsibility of raising Hang until she is old enough to fully care for herself.

Providing for children requires extra hard work in order to support them.
Financial problems: if a single-parent is not getting support from their ex-spouse, they may have to cover all the expenses themselves which can be difficult.
Changes in children's behaviour: children's behaviour may change due to a divorce; may become aggressive or arrogant etc. 
Personal time: single parents tend to feel they have no time for themselves.
Task overload: a single parent has to take on the responsibilities that are naturally meant to be shared between two people.
